Smoking In Public Parks.

I'm setting up an annual Subaru meet here in San Diego this summer and this year I'm wanting to bring along a couple hookahs. Has anyone here who has smoked in a public park before been hassled by the rangers or anything? I'm not looking to bother the authorities since there's already going to be a good amount of us bbq'ing, drinking, etc. The location (Mission Bay) gets pretty busy on the weekends and I'd rather not upset people.

If your already doing things like BBQ'ing and the such I guess your not going to have too many problems. But be ready and quick to show and verify it's a tobacco only activity!

I know it's legal in CA, but sometimes if you get a ranger in a shitty mood that wants to hassle you they will give you shit for the coals.

agreed, legally, as long as there isn't a smoking ban hookahs are acceptable. I've seen them plenty of places you wouldn't expect.


and yes also with Johnny, BBQ causes smoke anyway...hookah just smells better

I smoke at the state parks/beaches on a regular basis. All we've gotten was dirty looks.

It should be fine. My friend brought his hookah to the beach this past weekend when we were watching fireworks. It was pretty crowded with people and police officers, but we didn't get into any trouble.

You should have no problems, I take my hookah to the beach, park, and everywhere else i go. As long as there are no public smoking bans then you are all good.
Ive had a couple cops stop by and ask what was I smoking, I just show them the shisha and they are always cool, a couple times they've even tried my hookah!
I always give them a business card and let them know ill give them a good deal on a hookah if they are interested! lol
Theres a good chance a ranger/cop will ask about your hookah, as long as you're not a smart ass with your reply then you'll have no issues.
Dirty looks though, everyone that will see you smoking hookah will give you a dirty look unless they are a hookah smoker. Theres still way too many ignorant un-informed people out there about hookahs.
I think its funny when a guy smoking a cigarette looks at me with a dirty look when im smoking hookah..lol.. like he's better than me.
One day hopefully hookah smoking will be more accepted

I would love to smoke in a local park but I think here in California's hat's hat (read: Washington state) I don't believe it's legal to smoke in public places. I could probably pull it off in a secluded and wooded park, but I was thinking how cool would it be to head down to boulevard park on the bay, on a nice sunny day with a few friends, a few instruments, a few drinks, and a hookah. Just chilling and watching all of the cool people walk by.

Smoking bans suck really bad folks. Resist them at all costs. I wish I would have done more to oppose ours. Kind of like what Pastor Martin Niemöller said:

i've never had a prob. i used to only smoke outside, usually at parks. i've only had one officer even give me a second look. he just asked what it was, had me take the foil off, and ask what flavor it was.

i've never been bothered by authorities. i think most of the stigma is in your head. i smoke anywhere, plain and simple. the first time i ever saw a hookah fired up was outside of a BORDERS (bookstore)in Tampa. Deepak Chopra was doing a signing for one of his books and when he was done he and 2 friends sat outside and smoked-i don't think anyone thought it was nht. so if it's good enough for Deepak, its good enough for me!

before anyone asks, no i did not smoke with deepak, although i would have given the opportunity, and he's a really approachablee guy.

Me and Canon smoked in a public park this weekend. We got some Iced Blueberry tea mixed with some mint Tea and smoked some of my mix of Blueberry and mint Tangiers. Dang this stuff is good. I left the last of my mix with Kat and I have about two bowls left of my kilo I bought a couple months ago. Hurry up Eric I need your new blueberry flavor!! Please WTF am I gonna do now. Anyone have Blueberry Tangiers to sell me??

as long as you are only smoking tobacco i wouldnt see a problem at all i smoke all the time on the beach when i go to o-side and seeing as your in SD it shouldnt be a problem
