Seriously, though, getting a pet is just about as big a commitment as having a kid.

Look at the brands Al Fakher, Fusion, Starbuzz, and Layalina for some excellent flavors.

The reason we've gone with Romman is I think that its a step up from alWaha(only thing they sell locally) and I'm afraid to order the Fusion or Starbuzz because the site that I buy from doesent carry anything under 250g's and I dont want to pay that much and get that much of a flavor that we hate.

I would not recommend buying a pet with someone you aren't married to. If she wants a puppy she should get it herself unless it is a gift from you.

I've been thinking the same thing... I'd be more then happy to go in on food and anything else it needs but what would happen if we break up... I've been trying to think of a way to tell her, and I'm probably going to just tell her like that.

I dunno exactly where to stand on this....AT LEAST try out new flavors. Since you have to order, head to the reviews and check out brands others swear by (Al Fakher, etc). In my opinion, Starbuzz isn't always worth the dough, but certain flavors are. (I loves me their white peach) Pick out flavors with plenty of positive reviews and order a good variety.

Since I live in apartments near a college campus, I see boyfriends buying puppies for their girlfriends here and there. First you see them walking the puppy, taking it to class, etc. Then they sort of disappear as months go by. Hell, one of my neighbors now keep their small dogs of past few months out in the back at night recently and they whine all night.

If you are bent on getting a puppy RESEARCH YOUR SHIT. Read up on how to house train from the start. Aim for the long run, not the initial cuteness. Plenty of sad stories as it is.

The question is do you think that becuase she is pushing it so much?

If you were going to move in with her and she had never said anything about a puppy, would you out of the blue go "hey I want a damn puppy" I might be wrong, but NO you probably wouldn't.

that means you're just adapting her view on the puppy ideal rather than making your own decisions, which is bad.

Could mean you've been dating her too long and you've let other things go and let her choose becuase it's easier on you that way. But as a result of doing that a few things are going to happen now and in the future unless you change it.

a ) She's going to lose respect for you and your thoughts/ideas, if she hasn't already, and if she has, she'll just lose it more. Example: TELLING you to save YOUR money for a puppy. That's just fucked up right there.

b ) it'll get worse and she'll push bigger and bigger decisions on you. Some will be for real and some will be to 'test' you. But women want a guy that thinks for himself and isn't afraid to disagree.

Ok, some quick advice on pets from a chick with a failed marriage.

1. Before you get a puppy, decide who gets the puppy if you break up. This saved all sorts of arguing over the cat when he moved out, instead we argued over the contents of the liquor cabinet.

2. Consider an older shelter dog, one that is already housebroken, etc, that way all you have to put up with is the "Im scared-new house" piddling.

3. First dog, get a lab mix. They are great first dogs, they genuinely want to please you and are fairly intelligent. Most lab pups I've helped train picked up commands in under a day. Be aware they are *Very* active as puppies, get tug o war and squeaky toys and find a park.

4. Pleasepleaseplease have the kid discussion before moving in, personally I bring it up at the "we're now dating exclusively" point.

Dont get a puppy unless you can put aside a portion of your savings should the dog need shots, medications, etc. If you are arguing over whether to get a hookah or a puppy, your cause is lost and I'd rather you get the hookah. Getting something alive isnt like tossing 140 bucks down the drain for a hookah and some tobacco. You are making a commitment to the life of that animal. Really think how mature you are and how much drama and financial hit you can take. Then double it. That's a puppy.

Now, if thats her way of asking if she can have a puppy thats different.

Also, you have to think about finances... if you are saving like $5 here $10 there but still have backup money then you could do both.

But if you are saving that money and thats all you have aside from what you need to pay bills you're in trouble. You have to make sure you are pretty financially stable.

Wait a few months after you two are living together to buy either!

That way you know what your money situation will be like and you will be able to think about it more.
