Brad
I recently went to the dentist and he asked me if I drank a huge amount of Coke or carbinated drinks. I told him no and that I drink mostly water... I guess something that I'm doing to my teeth is causing problems, he said something I'm drinking or eating contains too much sugar. Could it be from smoking hookah? Vaporized honey / whatever else is in ma'assel?
yashman19
OOooo, that sounds like a very interesting problem you got there, and I would also love to hear how much hookah can effect your teeth. I would imagine not as much as ciggs would do to your teeth, but its smoke none the less. I find that if I smoke right before bed and forget to brush my teeth that night, the next morning I wake up with a god-awful taste in my mouth, and I just feel dirty. So I try to get in the habbit of brushing after every session if I can, just to keep the damage to a minimum. Anyone else have any thoughts to teeth destruction due to hookah? Brad
That's a good idea...a lot of the time I end up smoking it at night because of my busy schedule during the day.Just to get this out there, I still HAVE my teeth. I'm getting these tiny white spots on the front where the calcium is lacking.
mushrat
I take it you didn't ask your dentist if the hookah could be causing the problem? If not, I suggest asking him. There's nothing like getting it directly from the source instead of asking us to guess.
Brad
I didn't think of it until a few days after, but next time I go I'll have to bring it up.

Sonthert
Nicotine will stain the teeth, causing tartar buildup, but not necessarily lead to tooth decay. Honey doesn't vaporize. Some of the flavor from the honey is hijacked by the flavoring solvents. It shouldn't cause severe dental problems. I think the question I recently went to the dentist and he asked me if I drank a huge amount of Coke or carbinated drinks. I told him no and that I drink mostly water... is more along the lines of:"Have you being playing in the middle of the highway?""Yes."..."don't."or "No"..."good." mushrat
so..im beginning to wonder about this. I eat almost no sugar and am having major teeth problems of late. Admittedly i have ignored my teeth for many years but it's something to consider.
kmccoy90
Brush your teeth twice a day, floss once, and Listerine, go to the dentist every 6 months and you'll be fine. If you aren't doing this, it's more likely negligence doing the damage than any excess sugar from hookah smoking. P.S. It's not nicotine that stains teeth (or white walls, or car upholstery, or white guitar finishes). It's the tar from combustion.
mushrat
Thanks mom. But consider this, 80% of what we exhale is reportedly water vapour and Glycol. That HAS to be sticking to your teeth. And since it is vapour, its going to get into all the nooks and crannies.
kmccoy90
Fair enough, but if you don't brush your teeth after every pop you drink, you've got that same mixture plus three different acids wearing at your teeth for hours. Is the hookah good for your teeth? No. Is it something worth discussing? Potentially. Is it probably the reason your teeth hurt if you're doing tons of other things to damage them? Doubt it. But I'm no medical expert so who knows?

Tyler
I asked my roommate's mom (who is Saudi) who is a dental hygenist and she said that unwashed tobacco would cause SLIGHT dental issues but washed tobaccos would cause less harm than eating 1 skittle. Something to do with the chemicals and nicotine, also she said that burning tobacco can make it worse.

nathanmweiss
I saw this old guy that owned a hookah lounge in Egypt on the Sinai Peninsula that had the worst looking teeth I had ever seen. All stained the color of molasses. Although he did set up the best hookah I've ever smoked. Could have been stained from cigarettes too I suppose. Cleanest smoke I've ever had though, wish I knew how he set it up.
