mjdx88
Well I took the leap of faith this afternoon and went for smoking some tangiers bramble-berry and I failed. I packed the bowl nice n tight, I was using a large phunnel with a mod so I would be using less shisha btw. I put the foil on, with lots and lots of large holes. I got it smoking and the smoke had no flavor or very little but lots of smoke, thick clouds and a little harsh, I figured I got past a major landmark, it was just coming down to heat management. Well one way or another I got ash in the bowl a lot of it. I was get mouthfuls on each hit. So I ruined the bowl Since I have a large phunnel I dont think I have enough to try again. So I will have to wait till I place my next order. Otherwise it was a nice afternoon I proceeded to smoke some Fantasia Margarita and Blueberry. I also gave in to buying a coil burner so I got to try my coco naras out. I honestly wasnt all that impressed. I noticed that I had more trouble with heat management with the cocos then I did with 3K or goldens. Yes there was a very slight taste difference, I dont think I would have wanted to smoke the Margarita with a quicklight.Overall I dont see what the fuss is about, Im not convinced that naturals are top notch. Maybe I need to try exoticas, I dunno.Mike
Scoop
dont use the modmouthfuls come from rust in your hose. its impossible for ash to go through the bowl, through the water and up in your hose. Edited June 3, 2008 by Scoop
Big Boss
Keep the faith and try again. Once you get Tangiers down you'll never look back.
MechAnt
The mod made it fail. Don't necessarily pack it tight just match the tightness of the packaging it came in. Yes, it does use a lot of shisha but its SO worth it. Also use a little less heat, that's what insane clouds and harshness imply.
EternalSoil
you have to make sure the coco's are lit pretty well.smoke with them for a while then use 3K and you will notice a big difference! Also, you should think about getting a smaller phunnel with your next order too...ok, i just realized something though, you have a large phunnel but you used the mod and i dont think they fit together...maybe someone else can have a go at the problem.possibly needs more acclimation?more in the bowl but not as tight.holes not too big but big enough. (slightly larger than toothpick sized)and work on that heat management.
mjdx88
Yeah I realize that it couldnt have been ash, but I know it wasnt rust, it didnt have a metallic taste to it, it tasted like dirt. It was cleaned out by the time I smoked my second bowl, and I have never gotten water in the hose.I have made sure the cocos are fully lit, im pretty anal about that since I have gotten sick twice from some coals that havent been fully lit.My holes where a little larger than too pick sized since I used a tooth pick for poking the holes =PI used only 3 cocos on the large phunnel, which I though was about right for the size please someone correct me if im wrong. Also I thought I was supposed to use a mod if im not filling the whole bowl...Thanks for the feed back guys I know I will get it down. I was pretty happy I got a tiny bit of flavor and smoke. I think if I let the bowl heat up a bit more I would have gotten more flavor. I'll try packing it a little less next time, I really packed this one tight like I couldnt get any more in with pushing down really hard.Mike
MechAnt
Mod is for non-Tangiers shisha. Tangiers = fail if used with mod.
mjdx88
-sighs- Well I wont make that mistake ever again....yeah I need a small phunnel not that I couldnt smoke all of that I just dont have the time. I might try again tomorrow since I dont have much left and this will be my last chance to smoke for a while......I would like to get this down. If not I got some AF mango I havent smoked in a while, which is right now my personal favorite, cant go wrong with it.Mike
mathuv
well the dust or whatever in your hose is old shisha residue. When i used my old hose, id bend it around alot to sort of "crack" off the bits of old residue and then blow them out.. trust me, one day you'll find your favourite naturals and you wont be able to go back
Dereksd
heres some of my tangiers tipsmake sure its ready.it should smell like whatever flavor is.if you dont know the "right smell"just make sure it doesnt smell BAD like soy sauce.put the shisha in a deeper longer tub and mix it well and move it all to one side and place the bowl in the tub and use a fork to scoop a big chunk of shisha into the bowl over filling it and use your fork to scrap away excess.make sure your foil is tight and then use something bigger than a toothpick(i use cabob skewers, you can use the pokers on tongs if you got em.)and poke holes the size of your poker and go all the way to the bottom of the bowl.my expierance with eric tells me that for xtra small or small phunnels use 3 coals and medium and large use 4.i havent used coco naras.i use golden canary jap easylights and so does eric in his lounge and for personal use.thats what i do to get a perfect bowlalso i know what he means about coal taste it IS coal and it happens.when i do coal changes i get a slight coal taste but it goes away quickly.if its hose problems get a nammor you wont regret it! Thorshookah
i had the same problem, but Erick had me go down to his place and he showed me how to pack it right.... now the only shisha i smoke is thangiers. i dont think there is any other shisha on the market that is better than this stuff.... you need to not pack it tight just let the weight of the fork, do you use a fork?? get an oyster fork to pack it in, that is what Erick uses. but let the weight of the fork pack it fr you, you can over pack it a lil but not much. Dont use to many coals its a low heat shisha because it is not washed. like Big Boss said, once you get it, you will never ever find anything like it. neu318
Tried my first bowl of Tangiers yesterday. It was Watermelon. Used a small phunnel bowl packed lightly with two rings of holes and one hole in the middle with two 3k coals. Smoke was thick after like the second puff, flavor was there but not too intense. Overall I think this was a perfect smoke for a first timer like me. Edited June 3, 2008 by neu318

nathan_Choi
QUOTE (MechAnt @ Jun 2 2008, 05:41 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>The mod made it fail.QFT. I hate my mod, I've tried smoking with it at least 3 different times, I still can't get it to work properly, the draw is always too damn hard or impossible no matter how light I pack around it. Biggest waste of 13 bucks ever.
Dom
my experience with Tangiers is as follows: when you pack a phunnel, you pack it tight unless you use a mod. with a mod, you just simply pack it light and fluffy like you would do with a regular bowl because the heat is being pulled down and through the tobacco. i have been smoking Bramble-berry in my egyptian bowl, my mya bowl, and my phunnel and the best experiences are when i either load it into a non-phunnel, or i use the mod on the phunnel and pack it light and fluffy every time. otherwise, i think that i waste the tobacco when i load it into the phunnel without the mod. Sonthert
HeeeellllloooooHello to Neno (Shit...sp?! I still want to go visit your father at JPL!), MechAnt, Boris, Sr. Kevin Drain (OKlahoma, Tulsa)Thanks for standing behind me guys, its nice to know that good fcuckers like yourselves are standing up for Tangiers...Here's my thoughts in the matter:1. Mods are a sham...use them only for high water-content tobaccos...never Tangiers.2. Sounds like a shitty hose...or you didn't put any water in the jar. 3. Ash in the bowl is a fallacy (its usually a rusted hose)...I almost never ash my charcoal...My tray and bowl often look like the inside of a dust buster. TM4. If you are having trouble with heat management with Tangiers, you are really having trouble with packing a bowl. Using charcoal adjustments to make a bowl smoke right (within reason is a problem with bowl packing, not charcoal amounts).5. I hope you'll give us another chance. 6. I hate natural coals. Real, expensive Japanese coals are the only way to go, in my opinion.
