Phunnel Bowl Question

Hey all....well I finally bought a phunnel bowl, I will not mention where I had my girlfriend buy it....but after all the threads and people just lovin it...thought why not..?
so i got it...but it has no mod...can it be smoked without one..?
ok..i know it is a dumb question, but thus far, not impressed at all..so I know I am doing it wrong...anyone tell me what I need to do..
or direct me to a good video on how to pack with out mod..

normal circular..i think you call egyptian...sorry no pics..camera is dead...but just small round circular patter to the center just like I normally smoke..
I have been smoking glass screens for years now....so not used to the foil...

Alright thats probably your main problem then, try doing two rings of small holes (pin size) as close to the edges of the bowl as possible. just put the coals all around the middle phunnel.

The problem with doing holes all over is that if you have holes close to the middle phunnel it just sucks normal air down the stem rather than having the heated air pass by/through the shisha.

phunnel bowls need to be packed very high, so when you look at it eye level the shisha is stick out a bit, then gently press the foil down to push the shisha in (make sure it's not too tight) then poke your holes. from my experiance when i first got the funnel bowl i packed it like i would a normal mya or egyption bowl making sure the shisha dosent touch the foil, the funnel is the complete opposite.


also what brand tobacco are you using?



also in my opinion the mod dosent have much to do with it, and the hole pattern is purely about prefrence/shisha your using for example tangiers require pretty wide holes like medium size cuz they need alot of heat, well shisha u just do a standard tooth pick hole. Also with no mode make sure you poke a some what big hole in the middle were the air shoots through the funnel....what exactly is your problem? weak smoke no flavor? either or this should fix it Edited June 4, 2008 by Anxiety

i am going to re-pack the bowl and try again...lucky for me i can waste some shisha and not worry about it..oh yeah..

how many exotica pieces do I use ? 2 halves didn't seem like enough and 2 halves with 1/3rd of a piece seemed like too much.

i bought a med phunell and I can't tell you how much i love it..it is just fucking great...an hour and a half, feels like I just light it...using roland insta-lights..or whatever they are called, small taste with them..but I like it, easy to use that is for sure..
used 4 coals over the 90 minutes..im stoked...
it is so funny how flavor is soooooooo subjectable...
my pink lemonade is kicking ass, strawberry leaving a good after taste and watermelon just bouncing around like a bowl with a weight it in....oh yeah good night tonight
so....
with the name that we are going to use is Epic Smoke...logo to follow next week...just wait for this to hit the market, it is going to be hot..

What method of foil poking did you go with and what tobacco brand?

Normally on my small funnel I'll use two 1/4 pieces. With tangiers is place the coals on the very edges, with others I put them closer toward the center.

i was using a simple poke circular pattern with a slightly larger poke in the center, i i think they call it egyptian...
and of course Epic Smoke...or Zona as i have called it thus far....

You do not need a mod!

Throw three sets of rings around it. One all the way on the outside one in the middle and one around the center hole. For your tobacco I needed to add a lot of heat before it started to smoke. So I had to use three coco-naras and a wind cover. It smoked thick and tasted fine.

Isn't this contradictory if not impossible?
If you're packing up past the edge of the rim...how does the foil not touch?

Its still stupid, but the idea of putting holes in the middle is just idiotic. it defeats the purpose by letting air right down the stem rather than making the coal heated air pass along the shisha.

I thought the holes were put ON the middle hole. When I don't use my mod that's what I've been doing, wouldn't it still suck it down if it was just around the middle Edited June 6, 2008 by liquidglass

YUP, i know it seems counter-intuitive it really does, I completely agree with you. That's why I made my own mod out of foil until i bought one. But the reason you do it is because if you pull on the hookah then the air will flow through the shisha and when it tries to flow through the center hole it pulls the foil with it which closes it up and you get no smoke/taste, nothing.

The holes in the center ( i do like 4 or 5 think push pin size) only pull air in when you take a pull. it simply mixes in with all the smoke and goes down to the base. The reason it's not a ton of air is because the ratio of "smoke holes" (holes that are over shisha vs. holes over an opening keeps you from even noticing.

Ah, i see what you mean. Usually i end up using bigger holes around the outside so it wont pull the foil down, but if it works for you then go for it.
