Anyone Tried A Charcoal Screen Instead Of Tin Foil?

terrible thing to use. There's no seal unless you have a smaller bowl that fits perfect. Holes are too large and it heats up to easy making heat management awful.

Also they get difficult to clean after awhile.

They worked quite well on my pyrex bowl and for a while I was an advocate for screens instead of foil. Now that I'm a phunnel user I have no need for screens. Like liquid said, they don't work unless they fit perfectly... well, mine fit perfectly.

they do suck, but if you run out of foil they are a good back up. you usually get a few when you order a new hookah so they are good in clutch situations when your Reynolds runs out.

make sure you dont have the shisha touching the screen! this is a must. otherwise you will smoke nothing but harsh stuff. secondly you have to move the coals twice as much as you would if you were using foil. Double up the coals on top of each other rather than side by side and make sure you never put the coals in the center.

They are tricky to use, and you can only use them like 5 or 6 times before they become useless. But like I said they are good if you run out of foil. But i would suggest you use foil.

I use screens on my hemi and mod bowls and foil on my phunnel. Screens work great if they fit the bowl. air tight has never been a problem to me, never even considered it. I have had screens last years. I just scrap of the baccy and throw them in the dish washer and they last me quite a while. It's more of a convieinence than foil. All comes down to what works best for you and your bowl. They are cheap so you can get one and see how it works for you! Social Smokes screens has more holes in them which I like.

+1 to that. My screen fits in my bowl nicely and draws great. But as Stuie said, it all comes down to personal choice, and having some for backup can never hurt, I know its saved me before.

It seems to depend on the shisha. With wetter shisha like tangiers and layalina I don't use screens because it just doesn't work right. They do work alright with Nakhla, or drier batches of AW/AF, but not really worth the bother IMO.

2nd, I agree with Big Boss, I used one on my mod bowl and fit wonderfly, worked well, just keep the coals on the outside edges like you should already be doing, and it worked great, but also like Big Boss now that I use a phunnel trays don't fit. But I must say i'd give the slight edge to foil once you really get it down its better.

my roommate always uses the screen. I used it in the beginning then converted to foil, haven't gone back since. The only reason I think he uses the screen is because that is the only way he has ever smoked his and doesn't know there is a better way, and he is lazy.

I have a friend like that. He doesnt use foil because he thinks he hookah is "too beautiful for tacky ass foil." i told him whatever, foil does work a little bit better in my opinion.

I use screens all the time when I'm not using my phunnel bowl. I get huge clouds and great smoke with screens. Back in the day Mushy was all about them as well. I guess I just perfected using mine.
