filmigeek
Hey folks filmigeek here, hookah newbie still getting the hang of this. I've had five smoking sessions so far, three of which were great thanks to the advice I've gotten here from asking questions and reading the archives. Awesome forum! So far I have typically smoked for 2-3 hour sessions; I go through about one 33mm Three Kings about every 45 minutes, and it seems that one coal is the right amount of heat for my hookah and the shisha (Al Fakher) I've been using. At the end of my session when I open up my bowl I have a nicely browned layer of shisha at the top, some stuck to the foil. Underneath, though, the shisha toward the bottom of the bowl is still fresh and perfect. What's the deal with that? Could I just have longer sessions if I want to (I don't really need to but it would be good to know)? Should I try opening my bowl part way through and mixing up the shisha to get the fresh stuff to the top - do any of you do that? Do you end up at the end of a session just tossing shisha that looks like it might still be smokable? Anybody enough of a cheapsk--- er, I mean, frugal enough to scrape away the charred stuff and try to save what's left for another day?
Stuie
You can add another half coal if you don't want to smoke longer (1.5 coals per round). Or just through on another coal and keep smoking. As far as reusing the good shisha left...hell yeah. Get rid of the old stuff and through some foil over the bowl for tomorrow, then fill it back up with more tobacco. Kathryn and Canon and my wife and I did that with Tangiers last night. The Horchata tasted a little old but with the new vanilla it was awesome!!!! HKJON
you can also pack a little less tobacco, but I always like to end a bowl on a flavorful hit as opossed to a burnt one
peterjmag
Yeah, I'd just experiment with different amounts of tobacco. Just out of curiosity though, how large is your bowl? 2-3 hours is a pretty decent session, so I'm surprised that you're not "caching" your bowl out. filmigeek
Thanks for the responses. I will definitely try using a little less shisha and/or saving the un-cooked shisha for next time. peterjmag - The bowl I have is, I think, the Social Smoke clay hemi bowl. (picture: http://www.hookahimages.com/shop/media/ima...lay_bowl_l.gif ) I've been using a little less than a half a packet of Al Fakher - maybe 20g of shisha? Filling the bowl to the rim. I can try using a little less. Edited June 4, 2008 by filmigeek
Stuie
QUOTE (filmigeek @ Jun 4 2008, 01:40 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>the Social Smoke clay hemi bowlyou have a hemi!Okay I pack my hemi loose and it's about 20 grams, but if it's extra juicy i pack it tight to about 30g.I use 2 Goldens or 2 Coco Naras. I move maybe once or twice an hour. Then at the hour mark It gets new coals 3-4 hours the bowl should be done with minimal, if any, left over tobacco.
