How Do These Holes Look For Tangiers?

Recommended Posts

Too big? Too spaced? Anything?

having some trouble getting tangiers to smoke right. can't take a full inhale, feels like my lungs are about to explode.

I know a lot of people smoke it like that, but when I smoke out of my phunnel, I don't put holes over the center at all...most of the time it feels like I am not pulling enough. Tangiers is very heat sensitive. I use 2 Coco naras and keep a third in the tray for management and additional heat later.

Looks perfect, exept I also like to not put holes in the middle of the phunnel, I seem to get thicker and more flavorful smoke w/ no holes in the middle.

fucking HUGE if you ask me. I just use a bloody tooth pick. I also put a small cluster of holes over the center to reduce the suction on the foil so it doesn't get sucked down and reduce the air flow.

You guys really make your holes that big? The coals can almost touch tobacco it looks like to me.

when i was down at Eric's cafe saturday night, he gave me one of his forks that he uses to pack and poke holes with. He also pokes holes in the middle just like you did.

For Tangiers I make holes close to that size, not quite as big but at least 3/4's the size. I find with tangiers it smokes better w/ bigger holes. W/ other tobaccos I use something like a toothpick or corn holder needle. I usually keep the coals way to the edge of the bowl so it usually is only covering a hole or two so no need to worry about burning the shisha directly, and I move them more often than I used to.

So then what could be the problem with my harsh ass smoke?

Putting 2-3 coconaras on there.

Anybody wanna talk me through packing the bowl I'd be your new best friend. And I'm a cool fuckin friend.

Those holes are effing huge!

Slightly smaller but bigger than what you'd normally use. Like previously mentioned, use more tobacco and press down a bit with your palm on it.

If still harsh use more baccy as already said, and yes push down the foil with your palm and then pull the foil tight around the bowl.

well, if its harsh, it could be a) you havent acclimated it enough, b.) not enough shisha, c) too much heat.

Make sure its well acclimated. If it smells exactly like what its suppose to be, you're ready to pack.
Make sure you pack well above the rim of the bowl and do not sprinkle it in.
When you're putting the foil on, press down with the palm of your hand like mentioned above. But press down until you can see the center phunnel ring outline. After seeing it, pull back the foil from the sides so its nice and tight and poke your holes like you've done.
Use a small half inch charcoal (4) on each corner of the bowl.

hope that helps Edited by racemyghost

It really depends on where you live. I needed the huge holes here in WI in the winter time, now I am using a toothpick sized holes. It has been a little tricky with Tangiers and the weather changes, but I was able to figure out what was wrong, and adjust accordingly, and suffer only a couple of bad bowls and start over.

He gave me one of these last year when he was in Tucson, and that is what I always use. My holes are just a little smaller than those bjelder, but the spacing, etc. looks good.

For Tangiers climate changes effect the tobacco. I am sure it effects other shisha also. The tobacco I get shipped now compared to winter is a huge difference. What took days sometimes now takes a couple of hours to acclimate the tobacco.

If it is above zero I will sit outside for a while. You have not seen the fort that a member made to smoke outdoors in MN. Now that was some serious digs for a snow fort to smoke in!!

woah.....close up the holes ALOT....i try to keep my coals as small as possible because the ash tends to get in the bowl as you turn the coals....aka harshness....the method i use is two rings around the phunnel and one slightly larger ring in the middle.....holes that big are def gonna give you trouble...and ur not gonna get as much smoke...remember...its a phunnell.......it has a hole in the middle...the more holes in the middle, the more regular air ur gonna get inside your bowl
