Prototype Screen #2 Pics And Smoking W/ It

Recommended Posts

Dear god I'm so buzzed it's hard to type lol.

The rig: - a 4.5 inch wide, 2 inch deep brass bowl I smithing dubbed 'the party bow' b/c it holds 1/3 of a cup of shisha (i know it's too big I smithed it in a hurry lol)
- a shitty chinese $30 hookah I picked up at the shitty hookah lounge here in Greenville
-Tangiers Static Starlight.....my fav flavor yay!

Pro: -good thick heavy screen, I dropped it, did not warp, enamel didn't crack.
-It's 14 gauge thick sheet metal so it's durable
-Enamel can be customize, so any color, any design, even stenciled lettering or what not.
-Good number of holes drilled to allow for airflow

Con: -I dunno how you guys feel about it, but it sucks up heat like a mo fo, a whole exotica stick got it going very nicely after about 5 min for the screen to heat up
to max temperature and then it started smoking. Dunno how you guys feel about that. Gimme reactions about.
- This model requires it to be laid directly across the top of the bowl so it can slide on my bowl that's held in place with ducktape (did I mention my hookah sucks?)

here's some photos. I'll include more when I have a good camera to do the screens justice.

After all the pm's I'm getting plz let me reiterate to you guys

THESE SCREENS ARE METAL THEY ARE NOT CERAMIC THEY'RE METAL METAL METAL WITH AN ENAMEL (GLASS) COATING ON BOTH SIDES

but thank you for all of your enthusiasm about them. lol
phew, now that that's out of my system. There's a distinct possibility I will branch out into ceramic in a few months, but take that with a grain of salt. I'm encountering major financial hardship right now. I can't even afford a decent hookah to test this stuff out on lol. I'm a college student, I'm on academic probation and I'm enrolled full time. I HAVE to pass this semester with B's or I'm screwed. So we shall see how it works out, but summer and december will be crank it out times. That being said, ceramic may or may not be explored.

camera coming tomorrow, pics coming with it, and some very very handsome bowls coming soon. Edited by fifthmanstanding

Um well, at this point we haven't gotten prices worked out. I imagine the combo will be cheaper than separate. But we plan on making special bowls specifically for our screens (makes everything easier that way) and we plan on doing two to three different lines of bowls. One will be very high end with materials such as silver and very refined enameling techniques (photo's coming in about a week). One will be midlevel, mostly metal smithing and simple enameling, this one will offer all the essentials like a built in windcover, a screen and some other extras we're thinking on. The bottom line will be a bowl, could very well be nothing but brass but offering custom stamping of letters or enameling most any logo or design you can think of on it (within reason). Granted these are thoughts and not definitely set in stone yet. But this is where I believe I'm heading.

We're only two men, and I'm training the guy that's not me from the ground up about enameling and metal smithing lol. So give us time.
