Scorpion Tattoo Only For Scorpios?

hOkay, so i don't have any tattoos and the first tattoo i was going to get was a tribal scorpion and my wife was going to get a matching tribal tarantula of the same style. (we're scorpion and tarantula owners)

if/when i get the tattoo, i'm trying to avoid comments like, "oh, are you a scorpio?" i'm a freakin' Leo. So, i am trying to think of designs that would make it obvious that it is just a scorpion tattoo and not a Sign of the Zodiac.

i've thought about designing it after the species Tityus paraensis

so my questions are:
Is it uncommon for non-scorpios to get a scorpion tattoo?
and
Are there any designs i should stay away from to avoid looking similar to a Scorpio design?

Scorpions are pretty badass so i think its ok. I mean, if scorpions were human they'd smoke Tangiers unacclimated. I'd go for it if its waht you ultimately wanted.

I think it should be good. I have no idea about all the signs, etc. so I would never see a tat and be like "oh are you such-and-such".
All I have to say is, why tribal though?

To answer your question i think very few people would see it and think about the zodiac.
To answer Jeff....because tribal is badass, why not a tribal.

nothing wrong with a scorpion tattoo on a non-scorpio.

though I wouldnt recommend a tribal scorpion personaly (obviously tattoos are a personal choice so u get what you want); there are so many great things you can do with the concept without getting a tattoo thats going to look like flash.

just get a realy good artist


[edit]: heres a tattoo my artist did of a tarantula; might be a bit intimidating for a girl but you could do so much more than tribal designs.

WOW, that's an awesome tarantula! I don't think the scorpion for a non-scorpio should be an issue. Like others have said, get what you want, just get a good artist.

Thanks, guys. i think i feel better about it. i have a guy who designs tribal tattoos and explained to him in detail aobut how i'd like it to be. i'm sure he'll do a good job. i still have a long time before i get it. you are right; as long as i find a good artist who understands where i'm going with it, then i'll be okay.

i have always wanted a tribal tattoo and within the past year or so, i've wanted this scorpoin idea.
if i don't like any tribal designs, though, i may just go for a realistic depiction of a Tidyus paraensis scorpion. that'd be pretty cool, too.

that's pretty cool. my wife has very fair skin and so she holds color very well. i'm hoping to find an artist who might be able to acurately recreate something like this:

theres alot of "ok" artists around, but these types of pieces definately need a above average artist to be done right.

I guess I see tribal tats as being a huge "bro" fade, but you should get what you like and are going to be happy with. If thats it, then I would def get it.
Also, to Stuyvo, where is that on your body? That would be scary if it was climbing toward your junk...

well, i've been learning about UV tattoos and i think that when i get a scorpion tattoo, it'll have UV highlights. if you are going to do it, do it right, i always say.
