MR Bubble
Gee Tangiers, I guess you did your homework before you went on the market. Way cool! Alan, I dream of a curry that makes my butt look like a baboon's. Actually the finest curry I've ever had was cooked by a Britt. He wouldn't give me the recipe, but I suspect the seasoning was a store bought mix. I know it had to be British as the American standard: McCormick just doesn't get it, even after half the bottle. Anyway, as much as I'd love to talk cooking, (and I really would) I don't think the other members would appreciate it on this forum. Or would you guys? MR Bubble
Oops. I forgot the reason for posting. I tried to get glycerin today at Wally-World. Nothing. "Weylll, Wey use-ta cayrry it, but wey don't no more." Next stop: A normal town. Getting P.O.'d more by the minute, MR Bubble
Sonthert
I get kosher glycerine by the 55 gallon drum, wanna buy some?
MR Bubble
I love business people who actually want to do business. That's so un-southern like. I'm afraid that would be a little too much. I could just see myself going out to the shed, pumping out a few drops to "wake up" a bowl. When I die, I bequeath this 55 gallon drum to my kids, who will pass it on to the next generation, who..... Sariél
Tangiers, you mentioned that other manufacturers have moved to coen syrup. Could that be used in a pinch if you don't have glycerin on hand? Or would molasses or honey work better? Or Hershey's chocolate syrup?Just looking at what I have in mm kitchen. Sonthert
1. Actually, I was proposing selling 4 oz. of glycerine, not 55 gal.2. Valvoline makes a 80 Wt. which accentuates Nahkla Jasmine nicely
Sonthert
Corn syrup, honey and molasses are in the the group of foundation sweetners or preservatives. Corn syrup is the best sweetner but the poorest preservative. Honey is the good for both, but is a little TOO sweet, in my opinion. Molasses is almost as good a preservative as honey, but the least sweet of the three. The nicotine in unwashed tobacco also acts a preservative (nominally). Glycerine and Propylene Glycol constitute the flavoring cycle. They vaporize at a temperature similar to nicotine. PG is an excellent solvent that solvates flavorings, it vaporizes almost invisibly and has a slightly sweet, off-bitter flavor. Glycerine, is far sweeter, but a much poorer solvent. It also creates the characteristic "white" vapor that is mistakenly called smoke. Alcohol also is used in place of PG, its boiling point is far too low and is often "pushed" by cooking the whole mess. Some brands use water, which, since it boils at a very low temperature "blocks" the vaporization of glycerine, and nicotine and causes that delay between putting the charcoal on and the tobacco beginning to smoke. So, glycerine and corn syrup are NOT interchangeable, although honey and corn syrup are.

hookahphxsmoker
tangiers, so a lot of the thick whiteness during a session is actually just glycerine vapors?
HubblyBubbly613
Glycerine is being slowly moved into the "don't let them have it, if you can avoid it" category. If you mix glycerine with fuming, 16M Nitric Acid, with the right conditions, throw in some saw dust or ground sea shells and you have dynamite...literally. (detail omitted for security reasons)
Sheeshabum here. I mentioned drug store, but back a half year ago I bought it in the pharmacy section of the drug store. (I live in Israel where its not a problem making a bomb, you can find them in the streets. Seriously, I had read a year ago about a spoonful more or less per 50.00 grams of dry shisha. The woman asked me what I wanted the glycerine for, and she gave me the triple lookover like many of us males give all to often to the fairer of the fair.I told her for my hookah tobacco, got a mean face, but got my small bottle. I still have it. If I have shisha tobacco which is too strong for my taste, I add a bit in.Its no secret that ALL shisha mu'assell has some ammount of glycerine in it.(Some write 5% on the box. What else would mix the shisha and NOT dry out.No bad aftertaste, no danger, but sometimes when I snore my kids say that I blow big bubbles out of my nostrils!Sheeshabum

(detail omitted for security reasons)
Sheeshabum - I read back a year ago that the ratio to use for dry shisha mu'assell is around a spoonfull per 50.00 grams dry shisha. I've done it a few times when I found what I bought was way too strong for me. It makes the taste the same, but smoother going in. I bought it where I live in Israel, and got a few funny stares, even though I had a number of my 7 kids with me.Anyways, here if you want a bomb, you smuggle it or steal it, its quicker. All shisha mu'assell has glycerine n thepack, don't the ones who list the ingredients write 5% (I think). Some use more, like I see and feel in "Al-Fakher" tobacco.Just put your fingers in, you have to wash your hands like a doctor afterwards. Pick up a clump (bush) of "Nakhla" tobacco, put it on the ceramic head, and barely need to brush it off.No slightly kidding, but it IS less wet. Its not dangerous like breathing the air of Los Angeles or Tokyo.
sheeshabum
A P.S. note to TANGIERS. That was mighty awesome. Never did I get that so well said. I learned more from your note in 3 minutes than I have in many places. that's what I come to the Hookah Forum for. Sheeshabum

MR Bubble
Oh damn. I was getting all sentimental and forgot to tell you all I found a bottle of Glycerin. I will probably play with it after I do another review of the Sebleti. It is tough right now as MRS Bubble had surgery on her Carpal tunnel. I'm doing some helping out. Sonthert
I always thought it would be terrificly funny to ask..."So is there a Mrs. Bubble at home?" or "Do X-Mas cards come addressed to Mr and Mrs Bubble and all the little bubbles?" That reminds me of a joke...I'll put it on the jokes space. Teh heh. Sorry. You get my vote for best screen name, but best abbreviations go to Mushy. Soup's good too (or good food ). Yes thick whiteness is just glycerine and other vapors, including, but not limited to Propylene glycol, flavoring, nicotine and traces of water, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide. Sonthert
On a completely different note: I've always enjoyed sharing information with people...I'm glad I can find a place where people can say interesting and informative things and listen too. Its a rare combination. If the entirety of the human race shared these attributes, the world would be a halcyon nirvana. Thank you for your kind words, Mr. Bubble. And to you, sheeshabum and well, to Mushrat for being so supportive and darn nice. Also, to that guy who sent me a PM and encouraged me not to get upset (although I wasn't anyways). I forgot, I think.
