srawas89
Hey guys I have two questions and I figured I would post both in one thread instead of posting two seperate threads.Just recently I have bought some Al Fakher that is supposedly made in Dubai instead of in the U.S. and its supposed to be more potent etc. I have had great experiences smoking this import. I was wondering if it was actually from dubai or just a REALLY REALLY good fake. By the way I am almost positive they use the same tobacco up at the Sinbad Hookah bar in Dearborn, MI and it was absolutely amazing. Here are some pics:My other question is that I am looking to buy a portable coil stove however I need one that does not use a chord and mayb runs on batteries. I only need this because when I am out on my college campus I dont have an outlet that I can use and I want to use the coco naras so any suggestions? dakingkevin23
It looks fake.you can always buy a torch if you don't have a outlet for coals.
srawas89
Well I dont know all I know is that it tastes like it is imported because it is so much stronger and has so much flavor. I normally dont get a buzz when I stand up after smoking but with this I have 98% of the time. But O well I hope more people can give some insight although I had just posted this haha
SmokinMoose
Thats a fake for sure. The fake tastes a lot sweeter than the real one and it doesn't have the strong anise taste to it. Im gonna have to try lighting a coco nara with a torch. I'm afraid it will really heat up the tongs. Edited June 19, 2008 by SmokinMoose
Stuie
There was a Dubai Tobacco Company that was running and somehow AL Fakher was incorporated into the package and that stuff looks like it. Not sure if the two were ever owned by one another, but that is not true genuine Al Fakher.
srawas89
O well its good either way. Anyway one other question...if I were to light coco naras on a glass electric stove would it ash that much or would it be simple clean up? Hope somebody has experience with this before I try it when I get my box in a couple days
Stuie
Never seen a glass electric stove, but when I light my cocos, i just get the little ash that falls off with a wet paper towel. done in 10 seconds.

Got buy a 10 dollar burner at walgreens to light coals on. coals can pit and flake the glass, I am told, so we don't take a chance when we light up at my buddies. Just pull out the portable electric burner.
Scoop
that stuff is real. dubai tobacco is one of the lower ranks of al fakher thats primarily sold in the middle east.
srawas89
One other question...How long will it take to use a blow torch and would I burn my hands while holding it in the tongs?
Namenone
I remember getting this flavour (Live in UK) and i agree, it is a very nice apple flavour which actually tastes like apple. When this comapny first started i remember buying a 250g box and it seemed very classy, Good packaging and they gave a small little keyring notebook which said dubai tobacco on the cover. Though now it seems to me their quality has gone down a little. The mint just doesnt taste like it used to.
AzZ
AF is made in the UAE not in the USA however I wouldn't be able to say if thats real or fake.As for lighting Coco Nara's definately use a blow torch if you want portability. Don't hold the coals with the tongs when you light them as they will get hot VERY quickly. Either put them on a brick or use something similar like the ceramic dishes for plant pots or just put them on your stove and heat them with the blow torch. srawas89
Do you think I could use a spare bowl to light them?
Seanij
You cant even light a cigarette on the glass stoves, let alone a coal mate.
srawas89
A well I remember my uncle using the stove to light coals but whatever I was young so I could be wrong. jezter6
I can only say "i doubt it." hot plates in general are slightly insulated from the direct element, which is why they don't get hot enough to light coals. You're much better off finding another way... Scoop
depends how hot the plate gets...i know they can be used if they are expensive enough

So no, i dont think it will work. best advice, get a cheap coil stove (like people said, up to $10).. the blowtorch would work fine, but im just not a fan of standing there will a blowtorch to get these coals lit, especially indoors. srawas89
Man...Alright I guess I will shell out those $10 (I am not cheap...I need a job haha) O well thanks everyone for your advice. This really is a great forum
ilikemyusername
if you can't light them on the stove, and can't get an electric burner, you can broil them. place a metal pan on the yop rack and broil them.
lazria
Your package looks similar to one I received from a online vendor in place of true AF. After contacting them (AFonline), they agreed it wasn't their product. I'm not 100% sure of the whole story behind it, but it's not produced by the Al Fakher company. And I think he's talking about a Glass-top stove range, it just looks like a sheet of glass for a range top. Be carefull lighting coals on those directly, I know of 1 person who did have his shatter, but it was an older model (newer versions may have better glass).
