hookah hippie
The phunnel is a great invention for the hookah what it does is it has one large hole that is about level with the brim of the bowl The tobacco is packed around this hole and it allows the tobacco to sit in its juices while you smoke it instead of the juices going down the stem allowing your bowls to be longer and more flavorful
srawas89
but if I were to make a phunnel bowl out of fruit what should I do? Edited June 21, 2008 by srawas89
jezter6
This is just my best guess, but would probably need some work.Take (for example) an apple.Cut it straight across so that you have a large flat circle that will be the overall diameter of the bowl. Now, core the apple by basically taking an old stem/pipe whatever and pushing straight down through the very center of the circle all the way through the apple. This will be the main phunnel hole that will stick onto your stem.Dig a 'moat' around that hole, leaving 1/16-1/8" around the center hole so that the big stem hole pops out like the phunnel.Maybe take a little slice off the upward part so that it's slighly less height than that top of your bowl so that when you put your foil on it doesn't distinctly cover and block off that hole.Pack tobacco in the moat and smoke like a phunnel.I would imagine you would want to use a harder fruit like an apple as you're trying to create that upward piece. softer fruits might be much more difficult to have that upward stem in the center of the bowl without flopping around and being a giant mess. jezter6
Ok - your normal bowl has 5-6 smaller holes that draw your smoke down through the tobacco and down the stem, right?Well, what also falls down through those holes are small bits of tobacco/ash/juice and whatever else fits down the hole. That juice that falls into the stem dries your tobacco quicker and makes for an overall shorter or harsher session. The point of the phunnel is that the air is drawn down through the tobacco and then up the lip and down the one big hole. No tobacco or juices are going to be able to make that trip, leaving all the juicy goodness in the bowl keeping your tobacco moist for longer.
