How to pack tangiers in a phunnel

Recommended Posts

Great vid thanks!!

just a couple of questions
a) some people say dont put the shisha right up to the foil? here you overload it a bit.. what do most people do? is this just for tangiers you put a lot, vs. AF ?
cool.gif some people also only put holes around the perimeter, again is there any reason for one way or the other?
c) if you were to use the scali mod, you just plop in on the center and pack around it?

That wasn't me packing but the bowl smoked great so there were no issues with that. I don't think you are supposed to use a mod. This way of packing is just for tangiers.

If this helps any, I "overpack." Then, with the foil, apply pressure with my meat of my palm until I achieve a depression of somewhere between below the rim, but above the center hole. So, I believe that means about the depth of a quarter (coin). Then I poke holes throughout, with the same fork I used to pack the bowl. I don't use my hands to pack it because I never saw Eric (of Tangiers) do it. Someone else packing bowls the night I was observing at his cafe said that the oils on your hand could add contamination to the bowl. I'm not sure if this is true, but...using a fork seems to have produced far more evenly packed bowls in my experience as it also keeps your hands mess-free.

I pack the same exact way. I've tried it with the hands and it was fine, but I like just rinsing off the fork instead of having to wash hands in between packing and poking holes, etc. Good vid. And yes, def. overpack tangiers + big holes.

Do you always do that few of holes when packing tangiers? Maybe that is why once my bowl starts to smoke hot i seem to have trouble getting it to cool down. I poke alot more holes than that and use a little bit bigger holes than that. Should I be using that few of holes or does it not really matter?

I was under the impression you should use alot and really big holes with tangiers. Edited by mattarios2

well the holes were fairly large and the trick is, when you poke the hole, push the toothpick all the way down so you're creating airways. also, take it easy on the heat if its getting to hot. Edited by racemyghost

yeah I follow, tangiers takes like no heat to burn, and I do do the trick pushing the toothpick all the way down but it just looks like there are barely any holes, i usually do double that many holes.
