lostpaki2003
Hi, guys I used hookahs for a while but for some reason with doubling the foil and trying to make tiny holes the tobacco still burns really bad causing the smoke to be harsh. Any suggestions. I use only one coal, two makes it worse.
ilikemyusername
don't pack it up so high in the bowl, leave a little room on top, also if youpack it down with your fingers it will fluff back up and hit the foil.sprinkle it in loosely, and not all of the way to the top. SuburbanSmoker
well what tobacco, coals, and bowl are you using?and why do you double foil?
indian_villager
Try breaking the coals in half and placing them on opposite ends of the bowl.
NickReppinThe909
use less heat, NO double foil just get reynolds heavy duty and dont pack the bowl too tight and read the stickies
1Love
the main reason bowls become harsh or burn is due to too much heat being trapped within the bowl. Here is what u should do. Use heavy duty foil. Don't double it. Even holes around the bowl leading to the center. Use toothpic. One slighty larger hole in middle centerdo pack bowl just below the very top. Do not pack it tight. Make sure air can get through to the bowl holesdo not use too little or too much coalsI have a trick to packing bowls. Never do I get a burned or harsh hit. I'll try to take some pics to show

Baby Space Jesus
yeah man if you know "the way" then do share it. we all think that we have got some hot tricks and shit with the hookah, but if you never get harshness you should share some knowledge with all of us. srawas89
I double foil all the time and I think that it helps keep the heat in so try to use just one piece of foil. One other question do you pull multiple long hits in a row? I have found that this can make the bowl heat up to the point were it can not cool down fast enough and the tobacco burns. I know when I first started I burned a couple bowls that were very well packed because I did too many large hits in a row that were practically one after the other. nupC
where do you place your coal?try not to place it in the middle and maybe try breaking the coal into 2 pieces and placing them across from each other near the rim of the bowl.it may take longer to start up though
DarkParade
depends on the kind of tobacco and i always pack my baccy right to the top of the bowl and it touches the foil but i pack it loosely so if anything i would suggest breaking the coal or using less heat
Majid
I think you use quicklight coals am i correct? The ones you hold to a lighter and they fizzle untill they're lit? If you have tongs with a serrated edge, saw the quicklights in half before you light them and put each half on the outside of your bowl, not the middle. When the coals die down you can add an extra half a coal. Just be carefull not to have too much heat on the bowl.
1Love
sorry for the delay. here are some pics that may help in preventing harsh pulls and burnt bowls. I hope this will help!!! sorry for the large pics as well, i suck at computers: this is a normal egyption bowl, pack the sides leaving a hole in the center of the bowl so that air flows free. pack to top of bowl edge. you do not have to pack this way, however if you pack the entire bowl with tobacco, make sure air can flow through or heat will get stuck in the bowl and thus burn it. tastes like kaka begin making holes on the outer rim and work your way to the center. in the dead center add a slightly larger hole (sorry this one is not dead center hahaha) place the coals on the outer edge of the bowl. and enjoy friends! How bout this. If you want a bowl to never get harsh... just buy a phunnel bowl. I'l try that out though and see if it works. It just takes time to get good with the coals. that's where all the heat comes from anyways. just manage the coals better
aethiolas
Phunnels do not prevent a harsh bowl. They may make it easier to not get a harsh one but believe me, I'm screwed up plenty of phunnels. Practice is def the key though. Suffering through those rough bowls for the 1-2 good ones per month then regularly getting it right finally.
