Sonthert
By the same token, Blonde, we don't know what we eat and drink...Do we worry about it? In Europe, they worry endlessly...We've all grown up with and take for granted the FDA. They are sitting around being hopelessly overcautious, making sure we're not growing third eyes. My vendors go through the absurb process of being certified as GRAS-compliant manufacturers...so I stopped worrying about it. Breathing the air is probably more dangerous. Sonthert
You mean the book by Upton Sinclair, written in 1906?As opposed to the FDA which was:"Beginning as the Division of Chemistry and then (after July 1901) the Bureau of Chemistry, the modern era of the FDA dates to 1906 with the passage of the Federal Food and Drugs Act; this added regulatory functions to the agency's scientific mission."http://www.fda.gov/oc/history/historyoffda/default.htmThe expansion of the FDA to what it is now is anchored in the identical year that the Jungle was written! The Pure Food and Drug Act of 1906 was created because of "the Jungle". The FDA is the over-protective father it is because of "The Jungle". That's what you meant, right?OR were you trying to draw an illustration using a 100-year old work of fiction as your source of evidence?Lets put it a different way, until the EU, Europe's laws varied from country to country and there is no "FDA parallel". Things used to be as bad as they were in 1906. In some places, they still are, but they aren't here...
