Lloyd Knox
So yeah i dont know if this goes here, but here we go...I have gone to so many hookah bars and hookah cafes and they are all practically the same to me...no difference. What would you want in a hookah bar that would seperate that one from the rest of the competition? So what would you do different? What would you take out? what would you add? ilikemyusername
relatively dimly lit, maybe lit with oil lamps? but not dark, no "spotlit" areas, relaxed atmosphere, lots of burgundy and tans.perhaps poetry readings and art on the walls.

aronparsons
Quality tobacco and coals is the priority. Nothing is worse than going to a hookah bar and paying $10-15 for a crappy product. Other than that, most hookah bars I've visited lack a traditional Middle Eastern theme, which I enjoy more than the trendy/urban themes.
Big Boss
I write poetry and stuff, even had a few of my things published, so I wouldn't mind if there was a poetry reading at the hookah lounge, but none of that "slam" poetry, only beatnik poetry. Slam poetry fucking annoys me...
Lloyd Knox
yeah there is only one hookah bar that has that traditional middle eastern theme and the rest are all trendy.....
Lloyd Knox
whats Slam poetry compared to beatnik poetry?
Voski
Tits!jkno really.A lot of bars seem to bump hip hop music and it doesn't really create a relaxed environment. Some chill out music would be pretty good.
Big Boss
Oh, and another thing. It'd be cool if the servers were women. Men dominate the hookah scene, so it'd be quite refreshing to see a woman who knows what they're doing.
MeHT
Perhaps no tables, only lots of pillows and a variety of teas and karkade (sp?) served.
Big Boss
QUOTE (Lloyd Knox @ Jun 25 2008, 07:51 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>whats Slam poetry compared to beatnik poetry?Well, when a poetry contest is held its called a Poetry Slam, and the style that most often dominates these contests is an agressive 'in your face' style of poetry, this style is often called Slam Poetry. Beatnik poetry is loose and free flowing, kind of a stream of conscious thing. Its hard to explain, but you could say that Slam poetry is/can be stressful while Beatnik poetry is relaxing. Cybersist
I like to see different things on different nights. for example, we have one bar that does belly dancing on friday nights, live music on saturdays, and sports every other night. I would love to see a bar with a low cover charge, the ability to use your own hookah (possibly tobacco, however there are issues with that), and some good food. I really would also like to see theme nights, say friday night would be trance/chillout, saturdays would be live performaces, and the rest of the nights would be dependant on sporting events, if not arabic music or arabic tv

stuyvo
biggest priorities for me would be comfortable lounges or even just large pillow type things on the ground and good quality hookah/tobacco.releaxed atmosphere would definately be a +, acoustic or regae/arabic stuff with dim lights.... mmm.
