aethiolas
A while back there was a popular youtube video of some guys in possibly Germany(not sure), using a very odd coal setup. Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8cpNKW0_QE in case no one remembers what I'm talking about. Anyway, never really caught if anyone actually used this or if it was effective so I was wondering what the thoughts were on it and if anyone is still now using it after trying it. NickReppinThe909
seems like a waste of time
Victim026
I think the general consensus was that there was no reason to do what they did, and that a few members tried it and didn't get any better smoke out of it...
Scoop
agree w/ previous posts. waste of time, its not changing anything
Big Boss
I remember when this video was an issue about a year ago. Someone said that they had friends that did that regularly and that it was somehow better, although I do not see how it could possibly have advantages. fineout
i do the ring thing sometimes on my handheld if im driving, it noticably helps out and keeps it from burning too bad, since i used a whole coal and couldnt move it while driving. That's actually the only use I can think of for it now that I've thought about it more. It's usually hard to keep stuff from burning in the car since I use a can as a wind cover while driving. GiantSquid
They packed and foiled a bowl normally, and then put a coal sized ring of foil (which they made by taking a square of foil, folding it lengthwise a bunch of times and then curving it to make a ring about the height and diameter of a quicklight.) on top of the bowl in the center, and put foil over that. They poked holes through the foil just above the center of the ring and afterwards they put the coal on and smoked away.Edit: Terrible sentence structure/spelling Edited June 27, 2008 by GiantSquid
guyt
A hookah bar I go to a lot, going there tonight actually, does that. When I asked one of the guys why they do it he said that it lets them be a bit sloppier with packing the bowl and the shisha still won't burn, and it makes their lives easier because it blocks some of the falling ashes so they don't have to ash as often. It doesn't improve on quality it, just makes it work with a less effort, useless for us, critical for a lounge.
aethiolas
I'm all about being lazy though! If someone could tell me that this means you don't have to worry about falling ash or moving coals, I'm down. However, the consensus seems to be its not worth the effort... ilikemyusername
i did it for a while, - ha! never even knew there was a video.the downside1-it takes longer to set up the bowl2-it takes longer to get it goingthe upside1-it makes heat management almost obsolete. ryno
Three things-takes too long and too much foil for me-notice he didnt have the coal going all the way? whats up with that?-and finally, anyone else notice that scum line in the base? ewwwwww.but what the hell, i'm sure i'll try it just to see. GiantSquid
QUOTE (ilikemyusername @ Jun 28 2008, 12:19 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>i did it for a while, - ha! never even knew there was a video.the downside1-it takes longer to set up the bowl2-it takes longer to get it goingthe upside1-it makes heat management almost obsolete. After trying it last night, I noticed all 3 of those things. It took forever to get going, which is not something I like to deal with. It took me much longer to set up the bowl, not to mention I was setting up two bowls at once to start (only one with the foil ring thing). But maybe in the car it would work better because I always have the windcover on and wouldn't have to worry about burning.
