maried79 Posted June 27, 2008 Share Posted June 27, 2008 We went to the habibi loung on vacation in NYC. My boyfriend and I both first smoked a strawberry hookah here and thought it was wonderful. Well, I had a hookah I had never used my grandfather brought me from Iran. After asking the guy what it was, he told us it was only fresh strawberry. We were surprised at his answer so of course we were like, just cut up fresh strawberrys to smoke? He was quite adament that that is what it was, just fresh strawberry- why he would lie I dont know because we had mentioned we were on vacation. So we get home, buy coals, strawberrys and us and 2 other friends attempt to smoke them. Of course it didnt work, and now we have bought several different kinds of shisha, including the starbuzz, and Nothing i have tried tastes like the stuff we smoked at habibi- that real strawberry flavor.. I am starting to wonder if there is some way to smoke strawberries, I just dont know. Does anyone have any idea what kind of shisha it is? Thanks so much! MarieFrom what I know of Habibi, they make thier own shisha...and it is quite amazing, he actually uses only fresh fruit's..so he wasn't lying to you, it is a method of making shisha that is great, just it will go bad in about 2 weeks from what I understand..but that place has some great smoke Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
AKammenzind Posted June 27, 2008 Share Posted June 27, 2008 Well, the only thing I could imagine working would be if he shredded strawberry to some consistency rather like pipe tobacco (mainly so you could get airflow through it, rather than just having strawberry paste, or big chunks of strawberries too thick to burn right), then bathed it in glycerine, and possibly a bit of honey or molasses if it tasted very sweet. I am gonna buy some more strawberries and keep trying.. my boyfriend has given up on it.. hes happy with the starbuzz strawberry.. its good, but has to me a more of "pie" flavor than the fresh strawberry flavor..Any advice would be great... do you have to have glycerin? ive seen multiple recipies that both use and do not use it.. so confusing..thanks everyone..-marie Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Tobacco burns well naturally because it's just a leaf, but fruits don't usually burn all that well. Glycerine is there to create smoke. Go down to your local drug store and they should have some... just make sure it's pure glycerine, and not some sort of glycerine-based lotion. I'd slice the strawberries as thin as you can, then mix the sliced bits up with a spoonfull of glycerine, pack a bowl (just make sure you can get good airflow once it's packed) and that might do it. Codename067 Posted June 28, 2008 Share Posted June 28, 2008 I have tried smoking shredded Green Apple before...I would not say that it smoked exactly like it tasted, but it was not bad either.Strawberries would be better hence they have a stronger flavor. Heres what you can do:Get some strawberries, cup them up as small as you can, let it dry up for a little, after that mix it with some glycerin as AK mentioned, let it sit out for 5 minutes after you have mixed it, then either try to smoke it [if that does not work] or you can mix it with the closest strawberry tasting shisha you can find and give it a try again. Along with pulp, seeds, and juices.Do this, eat strawberries and smoke something to compliment it's flavors. This past weekend I mixed 1/2 a fresh strawberry ( cut it real thin and squeezed juice out with paper towels) and about the same amount of strawberry starbuzz. it took forever to get going, and wasnt quite the same but every so often you would get a nice fresh strawberry taste.. I did the same with a blackberry (frozen) and blackberry shisha and that seemed to work better, i guess the texture of the fruit.. hmm...perhaps I will just call them.... I wonder if they will devulge the secret or just say, only fresh fruit again... thanks for all the help, I ment to get some glycerin and try that with the strawberrys but I forgot.. maybe this weekend..
