that's called "hoookah head." it sucks. no headache medacine can cure hookah head. the only thing that works is like prescription pain pills. and for me, the only thing that seemed to ease the pain was a nice, hot shower. but then afterwards, it came back.

like liquidglass said, the coals may not be lit all the way. i had a problem with naturals and it was that i did not let them get lit all the way through. they were glowing red on the outside, but in the middle i guess, they weren't ready. when i heat up my exoticas, i flip them over halfway through so i get a more thorough heating. also, the japanese easy lights i used at Fumari hookah lounge gave me a headache, and i didn't even smoke that much. they aren't the Canairy goldens because those don't give me headaches. and i always keep myself hydrated and eat before/during a smoke.

+1.

I am surprised that only one person mentioned that. I've had a hookah headache once in my life, and that was the worst headache ever! I had to take a couple of my friends prescription pills (he went to a dentist that day), and then I had to sleep for a few hours in the car (because we were at a party).

I think its when the tobacco burns and you keep smoking it. Thats it least what I can remember, and then I noticed that a few times with my friends. I would try a hookah at some friend''s place and say that tobacco is burning, but people would just ignore me. And then they complain about a headache.

but again, I am very surprised no1 mentioned "hookah headache". The worst thing that can happen, and pain pills don't help.

Tobacco smoke contains carbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide is known to cause headaches at certain levels. Smoking hookah is different than smoking other types of tobacco in that it gives off massive volumes of smoke therefore giving off massive amounts of carbon monoxide. After smoking last night I had a slight headache. When I went into the bedroom the carbon monoxide detector read 48, it normally reads 0! And, I was smoking in a room at the other end of the house, so you can only imagine how high the carbon monoxide levels where there. I can usually put these two clues together, anytime I get a headache from smoking the carbon monoxide detector has a reading above 40. I can almost guarantee that carbon monoxide is the source of your headaches. Edited by SmoKingSynergy

Where do you keep your coals after they are lit, if you keep them close to where you smoke, the carbon and other various shit that gets released from them will give you a massive headache.

I used to keep my coals right next to my hookah and i would get big headaches like you described, but when i moved my coals like 10-15 feet away i had no head aches at all.

drink water and ventilate.
