SimplexCoda
so basically what the idea that name had was this: we should have a lottery.Basically i could see it working like this:1. People buy a ticket, limit 1 per person2. Then at the end of the month, we see how many tickets were sold and the amount of money that it brought in determines the prize that can be one3. Then next month we do it all over again.4. You must have been a member for a certain amount of time5. OR you must have a certain post count (these steps are to prevent people from comming in, making 1 post and winning something)What do you think mush? Big Boss
If you make it so that only people with a certain post count can play, I can foresee some low ranking peon making worthless posts so that he can be eligible.

Jeff_T
I like the idea of this and also see it being a sob to oversee. Anywho, I'm in. So say $1 tix and 20 people enter, then the winner gets a "prize" worth $20? Does the winner choose the prize or is it set? mobbed
sure why not as long as we have people down to manage this and give a good 100post or premium member requirement i think its fair

SafeSearchOff
think about it tho - if some scrub comes in, makes 5 posts, and then wins a forum lottery, you think hes going to ditch the place that just gave him $30 of free goods?people all leave eventually, i think the scrubs should be allowed to play.also, i think your putting to much pressure and reliance on mush to do this. obviously, mush seems like a logical choice because he can get it programmed into the forum (...somehow...). but, not to stick it to you, if you two are so intrigued by this idea... why dont you try and run it? i mean, unless mush says okay. but running the forum, a hookah bar, getting a second one open, and then a complex raffle... you might be stackin his plates too high there. srawas89
I think whoever is running it should be someone that the Moderators trust enough to know that they wont cheat on the drawing. Besides if they do happen to win then have a secondary person pick the prize and say that whoever is running it cant win again for about 4 months or some predetermined amount of time. Snoopy1966
I like the idea a lot. This way HF can make a little cash to go towards the dedicated server and someone gets a nice little gift. I would be glad to run this also. I will not be a Mod though after today.. My guest spot is almost done.
jezter6
I think lotteries (where you sell tickets) are illegal without a permit and would get the place in more trouble than it's worth...Personally, I'd like to see these vendors man up and be part of a monthly drawing (free) where they donate some stuff to give away.Entry would be that you have to do something (like make a funny photoshop hookah image, write a funny post in a certain give-away thread, etc) so that people that never post don't win. aethiolas
If this would setup there wouldn't be a real problem "managing" it. This could EASILY be done electronically, you buy the tickets, the computer then shows you the amount you can spend on the item, the mod purchases the item and ships it to the person who the computer has automatically randomly chosen. The issue that comes is the question of legality in lotteries..

The issue that comes is the question of legality in lotteries..Yes it could be easily run with a PayPal account. That way you know who paid for a ticket for the month and everything. I have a business PayPal account where I can accept monies from all over the world. I think if you just say it is for a service, then nothing should go wrong. Do not mention the word lottery anywheres!!

Victim026
I've seen lotteries like this run on many different forums for many different events, just think of it more as of a raffle rather then a lottery.
mushrat
First off. There are legal requirements for carrying on a lottery. If other forums want to violate that law that's their business. Next, wehat makes you think ANY of us have the time to set this up, get the program to do it, count the tickets, make the order, ship it, etc. We all have real jobs and semi-real lives and keeping track of the ZOO you are suggesting is way beyond the need to have it.Seconmd, why do wereally need to do this in the first place? A change to get more free goodies? Hmmm...i think we'll let people support the forum by becoming premium members. If you really want to help, buy stuff from the company that owns this place.
