zzzzzT
I have finally converted my whole glyph hookah to full autoseal with improved draw. I had some free time yesterday and decided to redo the valves on my Syrian Glyph. I got some green plastic airsoft pellets from a friend. If you don't have airsoft pellets you can get stainless steal ball bearings from smallparts.com. First you want to enlarge the holes going into the hookah. I used three bits each getting progressively larger. You want to take some oil and apply it to the bit while you are drilling to keep the bit lubricated and ease drilling through the bronze. Working up from a small bit to a larger really makes this a snap. Next I went on to modify the hose intakes that screw on the stem. Syrian hookahs are truly hand made as no hose intake is alike, they are all machined slightly different. Clean out the hole you just drilled and set up your airsoft pellet and screw on the hose intake. Depending on how deep the thread was put in depends on if the hose intake can take the airsoft pellet without pushing it down, it all depends on how deep the hose intake was drilled in with the thread. If the valve is blocked you have two options. You can either leave the hose intake higher up on the thread or drill out more of the intake chamber where the threat is to make the chamber deeper. I only had to drill one of my intakes deeper. The next mod for the intakes to get a little extra airflow with the larger airsoft pellets is to enlarge the three holes in the air intake. You can drill them out but there is a great chance of hurting the threads on the inside of the intake. If found an easy way to accomplish this. Just take a nail or icepick and tap it through the hole where the hose goes in. You don't need a huge nail, just use one slightly larger. The nail or pick will them be wedged in there after you hammer it in. Prop the intake on something and tap the nail from the other side to release it. Do this to all three hose intakes to enlarge the holes. Next make sure the hookah valves are totally clean and install all hose intakes and air pellets. You should be able to draw from any intake. I tried my hookah with three buddies. Having a working autoseal with a nice draw is priceless. Two people or three can even draw at once and it is no problem. No more plugging the hose with your fingers or worrying about who will take a draw. Also the plastic airsoft pellets are so much better because they don't rust. I hope this mod helps some people with stubborn autoseal. I will try to get some pictures of the changes. The Glyph hookahs are wonderful and are the most solidly built hookahs I have seen, it seems like it weighs almost 8 pounds. They just suffer from bad design not construction. With a drill bit you can make it a wonderful hookah with perfect draw and autoseal. Without the mods the hookah is no fun with it's tight draw. I have heard some hookahs have a master valve, but these hookahs do not. Simply drilling out one hole could fix this. It seems some Egyptian hookahs also have this problem with their autoseal. I hope this helps.
