New to this, looking to buy a hookah :

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, sorry I'm a noob but I know nothing about this at all but I'm very interested in learning.Anyways, I have friends who are into this and decided that I want to buy one, my problem is I dont know a good place to order from and a good value hookah that'll come with everything I need to get started. I think I need one that comes with two hoses since I'll always be using it with a friend and not by myself. Any help would be great. My big problem is my limit is $100 =(

Pass the hose. Also gives you a chance to interact with your friends and practice courtesy. Unplug the TV, too. One hose hookahs are cheaper and less trouble."Would you pass the hose, Clarence?""Not at all, Wilfred.""Indulge me, then Walter.""Please pass a scone and some tea.""Civilization is wonderful."Is there anything that speaks to benefits of society to the common man more than the hookah?

well...since we get this question a lot, I'd say read through the forum a few pages back..or try the search engine. Try key words like "new" or "new" and "hookah" looking for both words.
You'll find many posts from folks asking the exact same question...
If you end up with questions about a particular type feel free to ask...
Welcome to the forum BTW.
And I agree with Tangiers..go with a 1 hose and share the love.

I've ordered tobacco from thehookah.com with great results. You can see
a shipping map which predicts how long it will take for your order to
arrive with standard ground shipping, and it was dead on.

Even though I've never ordered a hookah from them, my friend has. He
ordered the black dragon hookah. Order arrived well packaged, and on
time as well. If you do order from thehookah.com, you should feel safe,
there not a shady company.

As for that hookah, I would suggest getting something a little larger.
There have been a couple threads debating whether or not a small hookah
performs better than a larger hookah, and even though there isn't
really a major concesus either way, I would suggest getting something
larger than 24". With a hookah larger than 24", the glass chamber is
larger most of the time, meaning it can hold more smoke and water,
smoke travels a further distance as apposed to a small 17", so the
smoke has a bit more time to cool off before it enters your body. Also,
larger hookahs tend to be more sturdy. I have a little baby 18"
egyptian that I don't really use anymore, and I've pulled it over a
couple of times on accident....Haven't done that yet with my 36"
egyptian :)

That hookah does look pretty solid, but like I said, I think you would
enjoy hookah more with something above 24". But you are on the right
track. You will want a solid, SIMPLE, single hose egyptian style
hookah. For a first hookah, you can't go wrong with that. And you will
find that large, simple single hose egyptian style hookahs are very
reasonably priced on many sites, lower than 100 bucks for sure.

I'll look around and see what sort of hookahs are out there that you should think about, and post some links below.

I agree go with a single hose. I got a syrian glyph and ordered it with
one hose. To my surprize when I got it there where three screwable hose
connectors and two screwon purge valves with autoseal.  I would
avoid autoseal unless you want to modify your hookah by drilling out
some of the holes.
So I guess will this package start me off alright?
It will start you off alright, but don't buy it thinking you are
getting a great deal on a package. Sure it comes with tobacco and
coals, but how much? 3 x 50g packs of nahkla? Depending on how much you
smoke, that will last you roughly around 7-10 sessions. Same with the
coals, maybe even less.

That hookah will smoke, so that shouldn't worry you, but what I'm
concerned about for you is will it smoke well? Look through a few pages
of the forum and see if you can find a thread debating on whether a
small hookah smokes fine. Like I said, some people complain that a
smaller hookah will not give you the same smoke as a larger one. But
then there are those who claim small hookahs smoke the same as larger
ones. Me personally, I'm telling you to go with something a bit larger,
but thats just me. I would hate for you, being on a tight budge, to get
a small hookah and not be fully satisfied with your smoke, then have to
spend more money later to buy something bigger.

What I would do is find a different single hose hookah that is a bit
larger that doesn't come in a package, and buy tobacco and coals
seperately. Most package deals give you a bare minimum amount of
tobacco and coals, and they are typically cheapy brands. You might
spend a few bucks more than you would have wanted to on a hookah, but
will probably be happier you did later.

Now remember, this is just me. People have different views of hookah,
so don't take this in stone. The Junior hookah is infact a hookah and
will smoke, but I don't know how well as I have no experience with it.

I was just a bit suprised to hear that you are on a tight budget, after
saying your limit is 100 bucks or less. With a hundred bucks, you have
a number of options to go with, so just keep shopping around. Look at
everything you can before jumping on the first low priced hookah you
see.

Good luck, and happy hunting :)

That's why us, the retailers offer package deals...we salt in crap we can't sell on top of stuff that moves good and charge full price for the crap...or more! They're also set-up in a gift structure...what to buy for people that don't know any better AND you have to come back real soon.150g wouldn't last me a day.

I think the practices of most retailers is appalling, if that was the direction that barb was heading. 50g packets are more expensive and you'll find a larger cost savings if you buy more. Also, 50g packs are only $1.99 on www.hookahcompany.com
