modisess
Hey, today I had the idea of making a stem diffusser for my self since I saw a lot of people in this forum said that it really helps with the flavor of the smoke. So I got a cap off a glue-stick and started to pierce some holes on it. But the cap is almost twice the size of my stem so I was wondering what material should I use to make a rim on the inside of the cap so it will tightly stick on the stem(but removable, of course). I was thinking of using some rubber, like the inside tubing of a bicycle tyre, but i'm not sure exactly how to glue it on the inside of the cap or even what glue to use. I only have some shoe adhesive at the moment but I'm not sure whether that'll be safe. So any help is appreciated. Pictures attached.
jezter6
Look at gaskets for your bowl or hose ports that might be the perfect size.
Ninjalex
Wrap some electrical tape around the end of the stem until it will fit nice and snug
ryno
Use electrical tape or ditch that diffuser. You can make one out of a ping pong ball. Just put a bunch of holes in it, and make one big enough for the stem. I made one and it works fine.
NUBBS
Bicycle tube and shoe glue? You're like McGuyver!!!
antouwan
of you don't want the glue from the tape to get stuck to your stem, wrap some rubber bands around the stem until when you fit the glue cap it should be snug
ALI
id just get something else and try, that is kind of like rubber, like a chair leg cap thing, so it can squeeze the stem. i use a little cologne bottle lid or something that looks like one, it fits on good, it would be much easier and neater to just look for something that fits better. hippomania7
my best advice for a diffuser is to go to ace or some other hardware store and bring your stem. Go to the plastic tubing section and they sell it in different diameters. They are all less than a dollar per foot. Check which fits over your downstem snuggly and buy it. If you find one thats the exact same diameter as your downstem, remember that the tubing can expand just enough once put it hot water. Now all you have to do is cut the foot long tube to an inch or so and poke holes in it and find some way to cover up the bottom of the exposed tube. One way is to pinch it shut and seal it with hot glue. Or you could tape the hole. One last thing, home depot/lowes tend not to sell tubing by the foot from what I've seen. try a local hardware store.
modisess
heh, the thread's been bumped.. i fixed this problem a long while ago...i just got a thin rectangular strip of rubber and wrapped and glued it around the inside the diffuser, so making it like a grommet... worked well i guess..i also tried making a diffuser with a ping pong ball. but after all that strenuous hours of poking the holes on the ping pong ball did i found out that it wouldn't fit through the opening in my base.. i guess i should've checked first..i never used diffusers though now.. i didn't notice any difference anyway.. indian_villager
For my diffuse I just used some window screen and twist ties.....
Mirus
I just wrap foil on the bottom of the stem and poke holes in it with a corncob holder thingy.
