Probably the insurance. Insurance for teenagers is raep, and even worse if you're male.

But yeah, when I took my tests I screwed up the paralell parking. Might wanna practice that. And don't call the test-giver a douchebag for bitching about how you didn't unlock his door magically before you got in. That'll help too laugh.gif

you still have to have a permit after 18? here if youre over 18, im pretty sure you can just take your drivers test and get a license. Edited by fineout

Well if you are under the age of 18 you have to have a permit for at least 6 months...Ill be 19 day after tomorrow..My parents just didnt want to pay for insurance...That is why I waited.I'm thinking twice about taking it tomorrow..I need to learn maneuverability(sp?)

i took my test in california and got a dude named "scary lary" and i barely passed

Basically dont wear sun glasses (youll get docked almost garunteed)
Over emphasize looking over your shoulder and checking your mirrors.
Drive like there is a frail old women in your car.
turn lights on if its raining-test is over if you forget
sweet talk your instructor (cant hurt)
dont hit a curb-test is over if you do

I failed my first driving test (I ran a stop sign unsure.gif ) Don't go over the speed limit. Not even one mph over or you'll get docked.

Maneuverability is not that difficult. I thought it was kind of hard at first but if you practice a bit you will be fine. What I learned from my instructor before I took the test was that when you are going forward the general rule is once your side view mirror is is starting to pass by the second pair of cones start turning the direction you were told to go. When going backward if your mirrors are angled how they normally should be you should start turning when the middle cone starts to disappear in your mirror. However if you are comfortable backing up in your car while looking through the back windshield directly go ahead and do that as well. You basically just need to learn the limits of your car, where you perceive the edge of your car and where the actual edge is. Don't worry I live in Ohio as well and it really wasn't that bad and I took it at one of the most notoriously hard license bureaus.

I say pretend it's a Voltron Lion, yell "Dynotherms connected, Megathrusters are GO!" and peel that sucka out. If you're repremanded threaten to pull out your blazing sword and drop your pants. Worked for me.

Really though, the worst part is the nerves. Exagerate all your head movements, keep 1-3 mph below the speed limit, and always come to a full stop. Juss relaaax.

Disagree with Ninja, keep the speedlimit, 5 miles over or 5 miles under and they'll notice, just keep right around it, it's not that hard.

-watch for school zones
-you'll do a 3 point turn
-you'll have to back up: make sure you put your arm on the passenger seat and look all the way back

took me 5 tries (hawaii is super strict, ive known people that have taken it over 10 times)
Passed the first time ever driving my dads Land Cruiser =p

If you go down a steep hill down shift, even if its an automatic. DO NOT look down, they will dock points.
always headcheck and signal when changing lanes.
once you start backing up DO NOT look forward again until you have come to a comlpete stop.
Practice parallell parking

I am way older than you all - but I did not drive until I was 32.
Anyway -
During my test another driver backed out of a driveway and into the lane I was travelling in. The car nearly hit us. I threw my arm out in front of the instructor (like I could keep her in her seat) and hit the breaks hard. I nearly hyperventilated! I thought I was screwed for sure.

I think my instructor was so greatful to get back in one piece she passed me just so I woud never come back!

My best advice: Pee before you drive. biggrin.gif

I hate parallel parking, and it doesn't help that I drive a ford f-150 (pickup truck). Also I live close to down town and one one of my jobs is in the center of down town so I have to parallel park cause of that.
