Why Are Mya So Expensive?

they're made in china.
wtf?

lol yeah, I had a couple, they are definitely heavy and seem like really good quality, some say otherwise. I don't know much about metal and what not but from the weight and fit and finish they are definitely quality. I finally learned functionality is needed in order to be considered quality, and that is why i now think MYA's are not "high" quality

The price is probably due to the expensive for just about everything. The factory makes a profit. The wholesaler makes a profit. The retailer makes a profit. So, there you go.

I bought a KM becase even if MYAs were of the same quality, which I don't think IMO, I'd rather give my money to some egyptians painting and welding by hand than a bunch of chinese people in some factory.

only reason I sold my mya's and bought KM's is because the KM's function better, meaning purge and pull. Mya was easily capable of clouds, it was just more work to produce those clouds.

I also think they are priced highly to try to bring customers in if that makes any sense. Most people who are on the fence about which hookah to buy usually say they are going with the mya because they want quality, at least from people that i've seen on the fence. The high price makes people believe they are of higher quality.

MYAs are expensive because they carry a warranty on the shaft. They guarantee the shaft will be free from defect for a certain number of years. Also that it is rust free. We should be getting a shipment of MYAs soon.

There are a few reasons.

1. They are solid brass. The stems are HEAVY!!
2. Depending on what type of base. Bohemian glass is more expensive.
3. They do R&D on the hookahs.
4. They seem to be more focused on look>function.

Wouldn't you think they would advertise on their website that they offer a warranty on the shaft if this is true. By no means am I saying your wrong but, it seems as though they would tell their customers that. It doesn't say anything about a warranty anywhere that I know of.

Also, just because something "has" a warranty doesn't mean much. I know a lot of people may disagree with this, but think about it this way. Let's say your stem gets corroded in x number of years. You'd have to mail the stem someplace, prove that the corrosion or damage wasn't your fault, and probably pay to have a new one shipped to you. I'd rather use it as an excuse to buy a new stem.

and besides I am the type of person to wash the stem 20 seconds after the session is over. Then after that I blow dry the shit out of it to make sure it is completely dry. I am not concerned w/ rust, a warranty isn't gonna get me to buy it when I know rust is not gonna happen.

For something with more variables like a car etc. maybe then.

All I was saying was if the warranty was that legit I think they would advertise it much more. You know say something like we are the only hookah manufacturer who sells hookahs with warranties that protect you from rust, etc.

The only problem with purge i found with myas is the same on all...replace the valve bearing with an air pellet...and BAM purge like a champ!

LOVE MYA'S! Worth the money in my opinion! My Obelisk hits as good or better than Canon's Tri Metal.

It fully purges the base?

i've never smoked a km so i have no comparison there but i just recently smoked my first Mya and the difference was staggering. Amazing pull, airtight as hell, nice looking, etc., etc.
Seems to me that China or not they're doin it right. I do agree that handcraftsmanship is important but functionally and aesthetically Mya's seem pretty great to me.

Has a little trouble with the mini mya 90% Purged everything else, yeah. Downside to common chambers, but you can multi pull on a common chamber so it evens out.

I find it hard to believe but I definitely believe you. I am impressed that just a change of what ball makes the purge that much better. Edited by mattarios2

Ya but it would take some serious punishment to break an acrylic, whereas the glass ones cant falling off a 2 foot table....

acrylic party hookah ftw!

i can't comment on the smaller myas, but from what i heard, the bigger ones tend to be better. I have a colossus which is well maybe too big, but I would say equals my KM exotica, except in the purge. I have yet to try the airpellet.. what size would you get? are there different types?

Smoke what you gotta, but when it comes time for a party, 15 plus people on one hose sucks ballz. Multi-hose Paragon FTW.

A lot of people rag on buying things in China, why support their factory conditions right? Take a step back and try to figure out how much stuff we get from them. Omg, you're supporting China.

Why is it more expensive, no clue.

I had a big one and a small one and they both performed the same, weak pull and horrible purge, I'd say 4% of the smoke came out of the vase. But if a diff. ball will fix that then good for the MYA owners. But every MYA I smoked out of, the pull was horrible compared to my new hookahs.

i dunno what to say, but i find the pull of the colossus is equal to that of my km exotica. price wise no comparison, egyptian is the clear winner for price. for performance though, im extremely satisfied with the mya. smile.gif
