What Does A Session Cost You?

Recommended Posts

Well, I decided to do a little math. I buy Coco Naras directly from Coco Nara USA. I buy two boxes (84 pieces per box) which cost $32.00 with shipping. I use two sets of two cocos per session, on average, for a total of four Cocos per session. This equals $0.76 per session for Coco Naras.

I use AF shisha primarily, and I buy it locally for about $10.00 a tub of 250g with tax. I would say that I use on average 20g for a session with my small phunnel. That equals $0.80 per session for AF shisha.

$0.76 + $0.80 = $1.56 per session, roughly estimated.

How about you?

you also need to take into consideration your water power bills. what do you fill the base with and how do you light the coals

you also need lights to be able to see what your doing!

Imagine going to a hookah bar and spending like $15. That's 10 hookah sessions.

i calculated how much the lounges make.. on hookah only, without the water and power bills. so thats 1 coal per session and around 15g of tobacco. thats around €0.30 for tobacco (€5 per 250g of nakhla) and €0.20 per coal (€2 per roll of 10) so, they spend €0.50 per session and people pay €5...

Nah you have to factor in the overhead, the bar needs to pay for many things to stay up and running.

My own estimate at home:
20 grams of nakhla at 7.50 euros per 200 grams=
75 cents for tobacco
4 coals a session at 3.50 for 36 coals=
~40 cents worth of coals per session
We'll add 20 cents for water and gas
Total of 1.35 euros/2.13 dollars per session. Edited by Majid

I'm guessing you're joking around here, but assuming you were serious...

The sunk costs (or initial costs) would include pretty much only the Hookah, and maybe the first hose, ball bearing, and bowl you picked up (if its because you didn't like what came with it. If its because the default stuff wore out, then that's not a sunk cost).

How much of the the polish & scrubby stuff you use will depend on how much you use your hookah, so you'd want to figure out approximately how many sessions it takes you to go through a certain amount of polish & scrubby pads, and factor it in as a variable cost.

Unless you're using an electric stove to light your coals, electricity also should not count. That would imply that if you didn't smoke your hookah, your lights and all electrical appliances would be off. Basically, even though you use the light and whatever else while smoking, how much you use does not depend on how much you smoke, and would exist regardless. This also has to do with opportunity costs: the "next best option" (ie, not smoking hookah) generally should use the same amount of electricity, so you don't really lose anything by smoking hookah in this case.

Basically, if it's a one-time cost, then it's sunk (ie, your hookah). If it costs more the more you smoke, then it's a variable cost (ie, your coals, shisha, water, cleaning equipment, wear & tear on hoses, bowls, etc). If it is a recurring cost, but stays the same regardless of how much you smoke, then it's a fixed cost (I can't think of any fixed costs for hookah smoking).

But then again, it's not like you need it to be that precise anyway... I think there seems to be a consensus that it would come out to a couple of bucks. Compared to what you pay in a lounge...especially when you could have packed the bowl better yourself.... yeah...

Anyway, if we know one thing for sure, it's the last figure in your list: Enjoying a session: priceless.

i use a stove to light my natural coals and thats why i put a 1 cent. and also i bought and broke a few phunnels. ive bought nammors to replace the hoses that come with my hookahs. brasso is for my trimetal which when the copper/nickel/brass is exposed to water then it gets spots on it (copper mainly) and i like my hookah to be shiny.

I try not to think about how much its gonna cost to smoke hookah. Its bad enough to think, ok, how much in gas is this going to cost me to go somewhere. But hookah is something I enjoy doing. Whether is a dollar a session or 5 dollars a session. It's one of my few pleasures.

Moral of the story, leave the calculations to the hookah-bar industry. Unless you are an accountant, or just anal about this shit.

Nah... I think it is important to know how much you are spending on anything you do every day.

Do you calculate how much it costs to brush your teeth every day?
