Who's gonna be in my back seat? I dont want a car cuz it's kid-friendly, I want a car to go. Audis are nice cars, dont get me wrong, but for my money, I want something refined or something American-made. The GT-R is built for the track but refined for the road. The Roush Mustang is a throwback to an era where American made cars were the best in the world. The '69 Stag lives forever.

OK, about mercedes.

My dad ordered an E320 CDI, a turbodiesel for those unfamiliar, a few years ago. He and I went to Stuttgart to pick the car up from the factory and take a tour. Let me just say, that mercedes factories are top notch. The E class is by far mercedes top selling platform. Being at the factory you see such attention to detail, and it is obvious that they are serious about building cars. We then took the car on the autobahn, and were told not to take the car over 100mph, or 160kph for you europeans, because the engine wasn't broken in yet. You might as well have been going 30 mph, the car was so smooth and silent inside the cabin.

There are substantial differences between the C class and the E and S classes. First off, the C class is built in a different factory than S and E. And I've driven a C class, and let me tell you it doesn't even compare to the E and S. They are like totally different cars.

As far as mercedes being like honda or other germans, I have a passat and a civic which I drive around. The civic is a great car. It's cheap, reliable, and efficient. But after the car hits 90 mph, the damn thing is shaking around like its about to fall apart. Those cars aren't built to handle the same types of pressure the german cars can. And I noticed a similar experience on my dad's accord. The passat, is the exact same car as my freinds A4. Same engine, same chassis. The interior on the audi is much nicer, this is true. But generally speaking the car was the same. Audi makes great cars, I've drifted a freind's TT around and that was a lot of fun, but audi's dont have the same ....."elegance" as say a BMW or mercedes. As far as whether BMW or mercedes is better, thats like vanilla or chocolate, just personal preference. And the higher end porshes are sexy, GT2, GT3, turbo. But the cheaper ones don't impress me.

You could say, "mercedes have more problems than other manufacturers," and that would be an unfair statement. First off, the guy who spends over 100K on a mercedes S-class is a lot more likely to do regular maintenance than a guy who buys a pontiac or dodge. So, maybe there are more "reported problems", but anyone who claims that dodge makes better cars than mercedes is a lunatic. Also, mercedes used to have a factory in Georgia, USA building SUV's. However, due to the ineptitude and laziness of some american workers, they had serious quality control issues and now all mercedes are built in germany again, at least to my knowledge.

And of course Ferrari is the shit. That said, I think they are a lot of cars in that price range that are just as cool, but still the pinnacle of sport cars in my book. And The GTR is a fast car. It handles well and is a bargain for what it does. But it's still a nissan. I'm sorry, but if two guys roll up to a club, one in a ferrari, one in a GTR, the guy in the ferrari is going to get a lot more attention. And so you may say "well the GTR is cheaper" And ya, it is. But once you start talking about supercars, money should not be a factor when determing which car is "better." Would you tell the girls that your car is a lot cheaper than the other guys ferrari? Of course not, because that just gets him extra points.

I agree w/ everything you said except the elegance part. Elegance is based off of personal preference. I personally feel mercedes interior is too cramped with buttons. And bmws don't have enough buttons. I have never seen an interior that looked sexier than this for the price ...

It's a perfect mix of sporty and luxury, to me at least. So when it comes down to it I feel elegeance and all that jazz is personal preference. And to me mercedes is too cramped w/ their interiors for the most part, bmw is too plain w/ their interiors for the most part, and audi has the perfect middle. But to each his own obviously, whatever you prefer.

Also an audi motor just like a vw motor is made to be tuned. Go look at eurotuner and european magazines, majority of the time the articles are about audis and vw's because that is what just about everyone modifies. of course there are others modifying other german cars but the majority is the audi/vw scene. I'll go buy a 99 1.8t with 60k on it for like 10 g's and modify the shit out of it for 3-4 g's and walk away with like 4-500 horses .

Just do a search for mercedes interior on google images and flip through images, and then do audi interior and flip through.

But hey at least we agree on american cars

I agree with a lot of what you said. It's true that the audi engine is much more tuned. Audis and VWs make much better tuned cars that BMW or Porshe. Simply for economic reasons. For example, my passat and the audi TT have the same engine, but the audi makes about 50 more hp. And Audi does make great interiors. I love my friends A4 interior. It is stylish wihtout being over the top. I think the new E and S classes are a tad showy, but they are designed to be that way. And the Carrera has an intrinsically bad design, with the engine in the rear. Although its best not to get into that discussion.

i couldnt agree more i hate my "nissan" (G35) and i personally think the GTR is a car that only people that play too much gran turismo or need for speed can enjoy and it is by NO means a luxury sports car it is a affordable "sports" car and IMO if you are going to be buying a sports car DO IT RIGHT and go with an Italian or German car

What do you really need luxury for and how do you define it? Luxury to me is having a comfortable interior with all the trimmings. I have luxury in my Frontier if you define it that way (leather seats, 6-cd changer, premium sound, lumbar support). If you define it as having the most expensive shit possible, then yes luxury performance would be in the Ferrari/Porsche/Audi. You can not deny the performance-value ratio of the GTR. Sure if money was no object I'm sure all of us and our mothers would have a McLaren F1, but it just isnt practical.

With the analogy of the women, you assume that 1. they know the cars, and 2. they are out for money.
