ZAP
Does anybody know of any good ways to REDUCE the buzz? I usually smoke while watching a movie and I fancied watching one of the LOTR movies again tonight which is like 3 and a half hours long. In that period, I refill once and that runs out with almost an hour to go of the movie. I don't refill after this point because my head is in the clouds! My stuff is 90% AF.So I want to know what I can do to enable me to watch the full movie without passing out.Fortunately, I never suffer from hookah hangovers unless I get up and run up/down the stairs where I get a rush heh... Hexagon
Buy a tobacco free ma'assel
Hexagon
You can try to use hot water which may catch more nicotine
mushrat
You can take longer breaks between puffs. More oxygen to your system. Less buzz. You could also smoke so much the nicotine stops effecting you like some folks have managed, but I recommend the first method myself.
MR Bubble
Try punching a few extra holes in the foil. This will let a little extra fresh air in, so the smoke isn't so concentrated. That works for me. Maybe a little less heat also. Shallower draws, and as mushy said, longer breaks between puffs. Just "nurse it." Another option is shop for a different brand. Theoretically, this shouldn't matter, but in reality, it does for me. Try Al Waha. For me, it gives less of a buzz. Not AF, but they do have some nice flavors too. Keep us posted, and good luck, MR Bubble

NERV
also if your hookah is tall enough to manage it without gettin in the hose you could try extra water, i always found that less water makes more buzz so more water should equal less buzz
Counter_Culture
i was just about to say that...for me at least, extra water (just a tad bit extra) reduces buzz, but also smoke thickness...on the other hand, hot water increases smoke thickness due to the hotter temp inside....just dont put too much water or u might get water in ur hose and no one wants that!....also, a friend did this once,...i really didnt want him to do it, but i was too lazy to prevent him from doing it.....he took about 1/4 of the bowl, put it in his hand, squeeze the crap out of it, and while squeezing it, ran his hand through running water for less then a second...surprisingly, it had less of a buzz with very very little flavor loss. Sonthert
Refill less...more cooked tobacco has less nicotine in it...if you keep freshening it up, you keep adding new nicotine to it.
ZAP
Well, I smoked with a few different things yesterday which I don't usually do:Used a little more waterUsed natural coalsUsed a large, shallow bowlAs I was smoking, I could feel the rumbling/bubbling in the hose which will probably be due to the extra water and I felt at times the water was coming up the hose. Fortunately though, I was using a home made transparent aquarium hose so any water coming up could be seen and it makes the pull easier, which should also reduce buzz. The only reason I used natural coals was because I ran out of the quicklites. It was a bit of a pain running downstairs every 45 mins or so to light a new coal but I think the results were better than I had expected. They were branded Abu Alabed, which are also labelled as Nour and Al-J.....The most surprising thing though was the bowl I used. I have never used this bowl even though I have had it for a pretty long time. It is very wide and shallow. I think it take a little less than double the amount of tobacco my regular bowl uses. When I set it up, I thought this one would last me about 60% of the movie and I would use my regular bowl to finish off. The bowl actually lasted me all 220 mins(!) and the flavour was still going strong when I shut it off. It could have easily lasted another 40 mins minimum. Overall, I managed to finish off the movie still in one piece!
HookahDuck
glad to hear you got through.Perhaps you could try making a diffuser such as mushrats, and give that a try? We have reason to thing the nicotine content would be slightly more filtered by the water due to the increase in surface area of the bubbles. mushrat
not my diffuser..think it was Yashman's.
NERV
yeah, i forgot to mention that a wide shallow bowl will kill the buzz, lol , wow 220 minutes? that's pretty nuts, my bowls are completely burnt out within an hour, and that the difference in the buzz, by spreading out thetime that the tobacco is cooking your spreading out the concentration, assume your bowl and my bowl fit the same amount of tobbaco, if your bowl lasted 220 minutes and mine lasted 60, and they are both evenly cooked by the end of the session, then about the same amount of smoke was extracted from both bowls but mine would get that same amount in a much smaller amount of time ergo more concentrated smoke, stronger buzz, i could never bring myself to use my wide shallow bowl, the smoke just seems patheticly weak when i do
HookahDuck
Ahh sorry mushy, I should have checked the post. I meant Yash =P
Sonthert
Geez, Mushy, I thought Yash's invention was cool, the way you make it sound, you don't want anything to do with it...
ZAP
Thanks Mush, Tangiers and Hookahduck for the input. I will definately be making a new diffuser. I had a set of two before (the Hepa ones) and there was one large and one small. I used to use a large rotator at the time only so I lost the small one. The big diffuser won't fit my Mya unfortunately.... I have made a couple of sh*t substitutes before like the corner of a plastic bag with holes in attached with a rubber band and a small water balloon with holes in.Nerv, i'm kinda surprised to see a post by you. You went somewhere? Anyway, I didn't know the shallow bowl reduced buzz but it did make the drag a LOT lighter because the holes in it are pretty big (5x7mm). Yes it did last all the way through the LOTR Two Towers (ext edition) and the smoke was still flavorful. When I took it off and flipped the cake, the bottom of it was still quite moist to my surprise. I didn't notice any weaker smoke from this bowl but it does require more heat to get it started so maybe you were going wrong there?
mushrat
Tangiers: no no..quite the contrary, I admire people who can get creative like that... Though I usually follow the ole saw "if it aint broke..."
