900% Shisha Tax In Australia

Recommended Posts

Ok i know i was paying way more for shisha to begin with in Australia compared to you American smokers but now customs has slapped a 900% tax on top as well.
this is the gayest thing since aids ohmy.gif...... its $10 for a small 50g pack at the cheapest and $50 for a 200g - 250g tub where as it use to be $3 for a small pack and $15 for the tub. I cant afford this increase first petrol rises to ridiculous costs, alcopop tax is enforced to stop binge drinking, now my beloved hookah is to much to smoke and for what friggin reason.

is shisha able to be made easily? i know some where that sells pure tobacco because im seriously wanting to make it now. Edited by evlspcmk

well if it can't be made, they what are you buying. Of course it can be home made, do a quick search on the forum and you will fine a few recipes. But the basic idea is to wet tobacco with glycerin and flavor it. The hard part is the techniques that are used to do so. So look around and you will be surprised on how simple some of the recipes are.

i say if you have 100 bucks or so, you can just make a shitload of shisha yourself, and you'll be set for awhile, i know that in michigan a person is allowed to grow up to 1/10 of acre of tobacco without paying taxes on it. so you should google it and see what the laws are in australia for growing it. it's not hard to make your own shisha at all, just takes a little bit of time. so even if you can't grow it you can still buy tobacco in bulk. anyways hope this helps:

good luck man, hope to hear back from you.

ps. this past week i have decided to keep all the change i find around the house, well in the last four days i have found over $24 just doing some light searching so i mean worse comes to worse, just start saving all of your change and use that for shisha.

Not sure if making large quantities is a great idea as I've seen people do similar things, but wasted lots because it only had a shelf life of a few days as he didn't have any preservatives.
Sorry to hear about your tax situation. I think your only option for cheap smoking is to move to the US smile.gif

My best suggestion? Get a hold of Eric, become his Australian outlet, buy the tobacco in it's pure form, make Tangiers per Eric's receipes, sell locally and have tons of free Tangiers for yourself. Along with a new career. Assuming of course that Eric is ready to go international, and that you can convince him that you're the one stable enough to be his Australian outlet. Couple big "ifs" but you never know.
