qgriffith
Hello everyone I have been browsing this board for about a month, and have found almost all my questions answered in older post so I have not had a reason to post till now. Last night I tried some new coals, Golden Finger Coals, from Japan. About 45mins into the session I started feel sick to the stomach, and this queasiness increased more and more with each in-hale. I have never had this happen in the couple of months I have been smoking hookah. Has anyone else experienced this with these type of coals, or any coals? It was almost my first time smoking the new Peach from Al Fakher, however I have tried other flavors from Al Fakher and never had any issues so I don't think it was the tobacco. I did notice these coals have some sort of silver outter coating on them, which I have not seen on any other coals I have tried not sure if the coating had something to do with it. Stuie
Never tried those coals, but I know it's possible to get sick from coals. Also something most people don't think about...if you had an empty stomach or a really full stomach, same problem can happen.

Also, if you were 45 mins into the session the silver lining would be long gone. If you were to get sick from the silver it would most likely be at the start of the smoke. My bet is that you had too empty of a stomach, and the longer you smoked the more if upset your stomach. All smoking does this, btw.
SuburbanSmoker
Best cure for an upset stomach from smoking is to eat while you smoke. Make a little snack like popcorn or fruit or whatever you like to eat while smoking as well as a drink. Keeps the sick on the backburner. The coals you are talking about have never done this to me before, and the magnesium burns off alot easier then similar products i.e easy-lite/starlight so im sure thats not whats making you sick. Johnny_D
All good advice above. But you MUST ensure ALL the silver lining is OFF! Completely!Otherwise it might get unpleasant.JD

Scoop
eh. i dont think this silver stuff does much to you. ive used those coals for a while, i know eric uses them.i start a couple on a stove, then smoke using those. when i need more, i stack more coal on top of the ones on the bowl and have them start off each other. never gotten sick from it (i smoke while they start on top of the bowl and aren't fully lit).if it was your first time smoking af peach, it could have just as easily been that. isolate the problem
hookah hippie
When using coals as stated get all the silver crap off first and also it could be because of a lack of oxygen to the brain be sure there are enough holes in the foil to allow proper air flow
SuburbanSmoker
lack of oxygen to the brain would cause one to be lightheaded and dizzy. I dont know if that entails having a stomach ache, but i could be wrong.
Smoking Star
I have charcoals that have a silver lining on them. I scrape it all off before i lite it. Keeps me from getting a sick feeling
qgriffith
Thank you for all the replies. I had eating less then an hour before the session so I don't think it was an empty stomach and I drank water the whole session. It could of just been unrelated to the smoke session, but I figured the silver stuff wasn't that good for me and that may of been the cause. It appears no one else has the issue with it so I will try it again, this time with a shisha that I have smoked several times. For the ones that take the magnesium off the coals, do you just scrap it prior to lighting them? I had the coals glowing red and the coating was still on them, and didn't start to go away till they ashed.

speel
Along with what every one said, you should try out some natural coals.
stupidsongs2
The coals with the silver stuff on them make me sick too. It might be all in my head, but who knows.
kudomonster
While it can be the coals, smoking on either an empty or full stomach is never a good idea. Smoking quick lights that aren't fully red still had *GASP* gun powder on them, and I'm sure that'll upset your stomach a little while after you inhale.
