Giant Ninja Robot
So my old rotator, my only hookah currently, seemed to draw really poorly (feels like you draw alot of air) compared to a Mya I smoked recently and I believe it's from having loose joints/connection points. I did the put your hand over the top of the stem thing to check for a vacuum and FAIL! It's not a cheapo it was 100 bucks new though I'm sure many would say all rotators are cheapos but it's what I've got to work with right now.Is there any DIY or product to buy that would give a better seal? It's a one piece screw on stem that screws into the base. It's not like I found a specific leak it just has NO vacuum whatsoever when i do the test. I can still get good smoke especially with a phunnel but it takes way more effort than it took the Mya acrylic. I dunno if it's just poor construction and I'm doomed till I get a new pipe or if there's anything I can do. It is my first pipe and it does hold a special place in my heart but at this rate I'm never gonna want to use it once I get new ones Any and all suggestions welcome.here's a pic for refeerence though mine is an older model from like 3 years ago.http://www.hookahcompany.com/green_swirly_...h_2652_prd1.htm
srawas89
well when you are smoking your hookah next time blow lightly into the hose with the purge valve closed and wherever the smoke comes out the leak is there. As far as what to use to fix it I don't know although many people on this forum know what to use...I think epoxy was a suggestion. Do a search for leaks and you might find what to use to fix a leak. ryno
Teflon tape is your friend. They're at pretty much every hardware store. Just wrap it a few times around the threads and you should be sealed
Giant Ninja Robot
So oddly enough my hookah didn't come with gaskets. I did buy it from a friend. Maybe that's the problem lol. I feel so enlightened. So I've basically been smoking from crap for the last 2 years. This I find quite funny in that I'm going to rip my hair out sort of way. Thanks for the info Name I'm assuming gaskets are necessary to a good smoke and air-tightness?

Majid
Try this:-Set up your hookah like you normally do, but remove the tobacco bowl.-Cover the opening on top (where the bowl goes) with your hand.-Blow into your hoseIf your hookah is airtight, you shouldn't be able to blow into it, if not your hookah is leaking, wich effects the performance a lot. Like everyone said, some grommets or a few layers of tape will fix it up nicely. Check for leaks everywhere your hookah parts connect, hose to hoseport, bowl to stem, base to stem for most hookahs. I may fall in love with it all over agian. Is there any way to get the gaskets from a hardware store? I've never ordered online before and don't really want to just for 4 dollar gaskets. My 1st order is already planned for a different vendor than who ilikemyusername linked me to. They're not made in any special way for hookahs right? SuburbanSmoker
Ive never owned or smoked a rotator before but the gaskets do make it air tight. It would prolly just be easier to make the 4 dollar order and add some tobacco to it.
Giant Ninja Robot
Think these would work instead? they're not made specifically for rotators but are only 20 cents and come in lg and small sizes just like the ones "made for rotators" and hookahcompany is where my rotator came from anyway. Thoughts everyone?http://www.hookahcompany.com/o_ring_gasket_3286_prd1.htmI'd rather get these whatdya think?
Giant Ninja Robot
Sorry to bump a dead thread but I solved my problem without ordering 4 dollar gaskets online. $1.69 for a ten pack of o-rings from the home depot plumbing section. Measured the diameter of the downstem thread, bought the right size and blam! Smokes waaaaayyyy better and fits perfect. Ninja no longer feels silly and is now content. Thanks for all the advice. SmokinMoose
I gotta go grab some of these O-Rings. Why does everyone hate Rotators soo much. They are perfect for smoking indoors and especially when in a big group. They are soooo stable and hard to tip over.

Why does everyone hate Rotators soo much. They are perfect for smoking indoors and especially when in a big group. They are soooo stable and hard to tip over.because A)they are not very traditional looking, B)people have issues with them leaking, mostly because they dont know how to do simple fixes to make them air tight again, C)if there are multi hose ones people think they are pointless.the whole rotating feature i think is only important when at a lounge with a lot of people or when a bunch of people are sitting around the hookah and far away from it. people seem to think that multi hose hookahs are only so you dont have to pass the hose around and untangle it but theres also just not wanting to have to pas it back and forth, especially with people that like to smoke a lot thus taking for ever to get the hose back-matt
