manfredi03
i'm new to all of this hookah stuff. i am interested in making my own hookah out of an empty bottle of absolute vodka. for the stem i was going to use a copper pipe because thats what i have access to. but after reading all the threads about how bad the copper pipe is, i'm having second thoughts. is it really that harmful? If anyone has a homemade hookah and has used a copper pipe, has it effected you in anyway? And if i shouldn't use the copper pipe, then what should i use?All comments and replies are welcome!!also take a look at the pic... if anyone has any ideas what i can use for the bowl..please let me know, im stumped. SuburbanSmoker
First off you need to add a place to put a hose port which shouldnt be that hard just a little bit of glass work. For a bowl, well it looks like you could just throw a grommet on that stem with a bowl on top of it and it would work. maybe its way to wide, kinda hard to tell. Copper is safe to smoke from (as far as i no) i have a hookah with a copper stem and i have not noticed any ill effects from it, taste variations. Its all good. SimplexCoda
Well there is a thread around here somewhere that lists some pretty decent research on the subject. Of course there is also about a billion threads that are just people saying OMZ ITS TEH GOD METAL. and other people saying OMGZ GTFO BRASS IS TEH GOD METAL. Truth be told, they should both be just fine as long as you dont heat your bowl with like a cutting torch or something and get it hot. But the thing about pure copper (not 100% but meaning not an alloy like brass) is that until you get the pipe to turn green fully(which could take quite a while) your water will be really oddly colored, i dunno if you want to smoke it too much while its creating this green barrior on it. The green layer is a protective layer to keep the metal underneith from erroding so fast. But to finish answering your question, theres only one way to know if it will be fully ok. Try it and let us know so that all these copper threads can be done.
manfredi03
i defiantly will keep posted. Once i get a bowl ill put some pics of it up and show it working. hopefully i don't die from some sort of copper disease i don't know about.
Stuie
I'll just say this, your water is probably running through copper pipes. and copper pans have been a gourmet chef's goto pans for decades...just saying.
