Cleaning Techniques!

So i heard you are supposed to soak bowls and glass items and stuff in rubbing alcohol then rinse with warm water, what about hookahs? especially the metal parts.

how do you guys clean your hookahs? because mine has about a years worth of crap built up in the neck haha Edited July 22, 2008 by jameslol

I use vinegar soak the base with part vinegar part water run vinegar through the stem and shake it around then repeat w/water

first off you should watch the thr "b" word. that's not allowed on here. As for the cleaning of a hookah, they all should come with a brush set. Just use some warm or room temperature water and soap in the base and use the brush to scrub that out, I then pour some of that soapy water down the stem and then use a stem brush to scrub it out. I rinse out the base pour some non-soapy water down the stem, scrub again, then blow out any excess water from the stem.

ah sorry about the b word, didnt know about that =] i ninja edited, but i got a mya, and it didnt come with cleaning brushes, i have some pipe cleaners around so ill just use that and pick up a good pipe brush to make shift a stem brush. thanks though for the info, i figured thats what should be done, just wasnt sure about using soap or not =]

There are some cool how to videos on homeade cleaning brushes in the how to section. Check it out, should help you clean all your stuff. I just use warm water and soap to clean my stuff.

I just run hot water through the stem after each smoke and then fill the base with hot water and let it sit and then empty it and let my hookah dry.

I use water and hookah brushes. After every use, I run water through the stem and ports and rinse the base out. I hand-dry my stem and the outside of the base/vase, then blow in the stem to discharge excess water. I then let the bowl and stem air dry. I give the stem and all ports a good brushing every other time I use my hookah and rinse well with water, then hand-dry (usually with paper towels.)

I never use any kind of cleaning product.

some people use lemon juice, lemon juice and baking soda, water and soap, etc.

if you use a soap i would use something like dawn (washes about as clean as you can get it) and make sure to rinse and dry well. the biggest thing isnt as much what you use but that you rinse it well and dry well (general metal suggestion)
