glenh12
The other day i was doing laundry and i was putting away some of my sons clothes when i found a hookah in his bottom drawer in his dresser. i had no idea he even knew what a hookah was. i wonder if he had found mine and used it a couple of times and got hooked on it. should i confront him about it and take it away? or should i use this opportunity to have some quality bonding time with him and smoke hookah together? ryno
I say make a fun sitation/joke out of it. Set up his hookah and be smoking it when he comes home, and give him a lecture about it and act mad, then offer him the hose... That'd be cool
Codename067
Dont be harsh on the guy if you intend on teaching him a lesson or two...because if you think about it, you are most likely the reason he started smoking it.
r1v3th3ad
#1 How old is he?If he is of age, sit and have a talk about it...go for the bonding time, it could be a great thing. If he is not of age, just take some time to share knowledge of it. It's your call on whether or not you would let a minor smoke...in Texas a parent can provide alcohol to their minors legally...I know if my child is really interested at 16 or 17, they are welcome to join me(I know I'll probably get called a bad influence and what not, but I don't really see anything wrong with it)also should take the time to see that he is using it "properly"...did you find tobacco too? Lots of "kids these days are into nht and use hookahs for that, so you may wanna explore that possibility as well. (NHT is short for non-hookah tobacco, we do not make drug references except for in that manner on this forum...)

Rani
Depends on the age of your son...... Assuming he's over 18, I'd ask about it and yeah, he's a grown up, so as any grown up he has the right to smoke. So I'd do the bonding thing. If he's under 18, same conversation, but explain he's got to wait until he's 18 and has the right to make his own choices. Sucks being say, 17-3/4 but it is what it is. That's the "correct" answer...... But.....Me personally if he was under age?..... I'd have the discussion and probably make the deal that I will look the other way under two conditions: 1) nothing but tobacco goes in the pipe - ever, and 2) no cigarettes - ever. But I wouldn't endorse it or smoke with him until he's 18. And I'd tell him so openly. Because I was under 18 once upon a time and my parents opinion never stopped me from doing anything I really wanted to do, Better to make an upfront deal in my opinon.'Rani

Spotless
if hes using it for the right reasons embrace it, you dont want to be a hypocrate and try and cast down something hes doing as you are a member of a FORUM about it. If he is all over the nht scene step in not only as a parent in the situation but also explain what a hookah is rele used for.
Molson
To be honest. If you take it away he'll get mad and still do it. I smoked when i was under age and had to hide it from my parents. It kinda sucked and to this day i dont think they know (even tho my dad brought me a hookah from isreal as a decoration piece). I agree with boho on this one. I like the idea of shisha and only shisha.

mjdx88
All I have to say is that maybe you should bring yours out and talk with him, unless your going through his drawers on a daily basis ex putting clothes away he might get upset and feel that you dont trust him. But hey do what you feel is right and by all means make sure he knows what he is doing.Mike

IamWhee
I agree with that. If you tell him no, he'll still do it. I'm not s'pose to smoke in the house, but i do. So just talk to him, make sure he's doing it all right. And once and awhile I'd break out the hookah and smoke with him. It would be a good bonding experience. But ONLY shisha in the pipe. pigpen
Hes 16 - thats underage any where in the country. Some places are persecuting parents as abusive for tobacco and alcohol. so make sure you know the legal ramifications before you allow him to smoke at home. Also - give him th big health lecture. Smokers usually start youg and regret the decision later. Hookah is smoking - dead fom disease is dead. Make sure he knows it. Then you can decide togther what to do.But do tell him you found it. indian_villager
I'd say let him at it. Because if you make it taboo it will just make him want it more. I'm not saying go have his friends come too. Just smoke with him and make sure he is well informed. If all else fails you can give him soex. Tell him its the best in the market (its not) but its made of sugar cane. So I dont think it should be illegal.
Speak_In_Vowels
i had a very similar situation with my younger brother not too long ago at all.he however is 14.99.9% of the time i wash my hookah after imediately after a session. i noticed that one night after working an overnight shift that it had been used.so i brought up the subject to him about if he used it or not, he came out and said "yea i tried it and im sorry, i just see you doing it all the time so i wanted to try it." i wasn't suprised even the least bit, but still kinda disappointed. i told him al lthe risks of smoking, and how it's illegal for a minor to smoke.all the stuff that teenagers don't want to hear.he told me that his friend has one and he wasnt sure if it was NHT or not so he wouldn't do it there. so i told him every once in awhile(because he's so damn young)that ill let him take a puff or two, but until he get's older he can't legally smoke tobacco. suprisingly he agreed, and it was sort of a bonding moment for us i guess. i guess if he were 16 like your son, i might let him actually smoke with me every now and then just because i would rather have him be inside my house smoking hookah than be outside getting in trouble for it. srawas89
I would be a little worried that he is 16 (even though I am only 18). I know when my parents found out that I was smoking hookah they got mad only because I was doing it in public and I was a minor at the time...they were simply worried about the cops if they came in and checked Id's. Now they don't like that I do smoke but they don't flat out say it...my mom wont smoke with me period because in her mind its like she is truly ok with it now. Sit down with your son and explain it to him and let him know that he can smoke it in the house only when you are around and that maybe he can do it with like 1 or 2 friends only if they are really close and their parents wont flip out if they find out (this is kind of hard to tell). Another thing tell him to keep his hookah say next to yours and the shisha as well just so its all in one place this way its easier to make sure that he is doing it only when you are around. However let him know that once he turns 18 he can do it with whoever and wherever (as long as its legal in the area). And definitely stress no NHT substances period. Once that is done set one up and smoke with him for a little bit as a bonding experience.
TBatcho07
I'd say just talk to him about it,that is really all that can be done.Personally,I would explain to him that he "should" wait till he is of an appropriate age.

Johnny_D
I'm afraid that I'd be ok with it as he is 16.Unless you are likely to be stuffed up the ass by local laws. I'm not sure how things work in Americana but in england/europe it's often not illegal to actually smoke <16 but illegal to purchase (or purchase for <16's)However it's like drinking. Legal age is 18, but kids can drink in there own homes, at there parents discretion. Maybe this would apply?Personally I think american age laws are a tad daft...JD
