Son Has A Hookah

Recommended Posts

I think it's great that the problem got resolved in a satisfactory manner, including him coming to you in admission of his hookah.

As long as you're not encouraging a multi-bowl a day smoker, I think you did the right thing - underage or not.

This country is too strict on many of it's rules and laws, and having responsible parents teach their children to do the right thing, even against the laws, is better than the government running your life.

In terms of his friends, he is going to tell them that you smoke hookah with him. And you will be asked to allow them all to smoke at your house. Thats exactly how it went down for me when i was younger and all my friends would want to smoke at my house. My parents solution was to ahve all the parents call them and give them consent. Alot of parents will let there kids do things like smoke hookah if they know its in a place where all the kids can be safe.

just some food for thought.

I am glad it turned everything turned out well and now you have something that you can use to truly bond with your son. However I do agree to not let his friends smoke at least until they are 17 but thats your call not mine.

Don't you relax with it in the home? I can't tell my sons to not do anything I do, unless its against the law, like a 14 year old (my youngest) driving. I have one son who smokes hookah. When he visits me we smoke. My other 6 older offspringlook down on it so no question. Be honest with your son. The first rule is show that you love him. after that is re-stated (takes a lifetime evenwhen he'll be 50) talk about the right or wrong, theyes and no. If he knows you do love and care but don't want him to smoke, he probably will not. At least you won't be throwing the baby away with the used bathwater.

As a son I'm impressed with the grace you handled the situation in, as a father of 2 I'm glad you did this with an open mind and now have a chance to bond with your son. These moments are important and you may be further developing a lifelong connection. I understand how hard it can be making these decisions. Every one can seem like it will affect the outcome of their lives in a major way. You just made up for your digs on comic book dorks.......A little.

I'm glad this came to a good end. My parents were initially very skeptical of my decision to smoke hookah. Now I just get chided about it every once in a while, but they both smoke with me every once in a while. You really may have bonded on a higher level with him. Continue to spread the word that hookah is not to be used for other substances. Perceptions are everything in this world.
