Brad
Has anyone every had their tobacco or any other hookah related stuff stolen? So I go to my friends New Year's eve party hoping to share the new flavors I've collected and maybe convert a few non-hookah smokers. Turns out I end up leaving with half my supply missing. I guess I learned my lesson! Someone ended up getting some free Starbuzz (Bubblegum, Vanilla. 50g tins), my Al Amir Caramel Apple and a few samples sent to me by Tangiers.People just suck sometimes

mushrat
I only bring mine to parties thrown by my friends and attended by my friends.. You sure the stuff didn't just get set aside someplace?
HookahDuck
I've seen it happen... I just make sure to put it in an inconspicuous place and not let anyone know where it is. Also, I never have my entire stash with meTry making little baggies to take with you, and leave the tub at home.
jmexx
I'm normally the one throwing the hookah parties and I always prepare all the hookahs. This helps in keeping everything a secret.New Years Eve I had a hookah party and had two hookahs going on from 10:30 to about 3:30, I was making them drunk at one point but it's still the better way to go!Jon
Peanut
after a certain level of drunkeness, it's a bad idea to be hookahing. i had such diminished motor coordination skills one night of partying that i literally dropped the coal a good two dozen times... have the burn marks on my hardwood floor to prove it
yashman19
Yeah, whenever I bring my hookah to another friends party, I make sure that there is atleast one sober person to tend the hookah, most of the time being myself. When you get too many drunk people smoking hookah, problems are bound to occur, such as pulling the hookah over, or like you experienced stolen goods. If its a hookah party, thats one thing, but a drinking party, be prepared to guard your hookah with your life...Swarms of people will crowd you, asking questions or wanting to smoke, so just be careful
Sonthert
I stripped my store's floor down to bare concrete, first time its been that way for 90+ years, probably. Pulled up some 60+ yo lineoleum. Charcoal burns, gotta avoid 'em.
Brad
I ended up drinking too much I think and obviously wasn't paying enough attention. I had it coming! I like your suggestion HookahDuck, next time I'll take VERY small amounts.Sometimes I wish my floor was concrete too ... along with my bed I guess. My friend just burned a nice whole in my $300 futon mattress. I know, I know ..."Don't smoke hookah next to your bed then!"
DrunkenWizard
Before Christmas I took my hookah to a party and it got knocked over and burnt a pretty good sized hole in the carpet. The homeowner got pissed off so I gave him my hookah to make up for it. The bad part is I know he doesn't know how to use it and he'll try smoking something else out of it. What a waste. jmexx
One day we were smoking in my room, watching a movie. A friend of mine was chilling on a big rolling chair from my dads office (you all know where this is going,) and halfway during the session, he yanked the chord making it fall on the floor. While I went to go pick it up (yes, with my fingers and yes I've done it before,) he went frantic and was yelling "where is it?!" while he rolled over the coal multiple times. Lotsa black marks on the floor, totallly not worth it!To avoid burning of the holes, especially at parties, I setup a large blanket that covers most of the smoking area. This blanket is out of service so I don't care what happens to it. I put pillow sunder the blanket to make it a little more comfortable with my hookahs in the middle on some sort of table or stable wood, usually works for me!Yay for parties!!Jon
iheartvarg1
i too have the carpet burn marks...say goodbye to my security deposit when i move out!! seems every time i leave people alone with my argileh, someone ends up burning a hole in the carpet. well, to be fair, the living room ones are from people and the ones in my bedroom are from my roommate's kitten. my solution is just take it with me and set it away from people whenever i get up to go somewhere. when its at their place, whatever burn marks they get are their own damn fault! yashman19
Even though old blankets my work, using old sections of carpet would work better in my opinion. The nice thing about using carpet on carpet is that if you drop a coal on your carpet section, the coal will just leave a burn mark and maybe some smell. But if you use a blanket, coals burn through them 10x faster, and might even light it on fire, or atleast the stuffing inside the blanket. And carpet tends to be much more discrete. I actually went to the thrift store and found a few thin rugs/carpet sections for dirt cheap, and I just completely surround my table which holds the hookah. Cheap and effective
DougBurns
Yashman, I really like that idea, especially if you could find some nice faux persian-type designs...it could look really nice. Combining this thread with the thread on floor/table is starting to give me some really good ideas for some hookah setup-ness.Once my roommate and I were smoking hookah in a fit of drunken-ness but in a moment of clarity we actually remembered to put a towel down. Despite this, while tending to the coals, I dropped the coal on the towel 4 times and on the carpet at least 6. For some reason I just really didnt have the motor skills to hold that charcoal in the tongs. It didn't happen again the rest of the session, and luckily we didn't get any carpet burns, but I'm sure if someone would've been watching, they would've gotten a good laugh. Soup
In my expierence, dunken hookah is not good. Brad, that really sucks about half you stash being stolen. My buddy was hosting a party at his place for a friends birthday. We didn't know what kind of people would be there so we took the hookah, and stashed it in his room. Turns out no bad people showed up so we brought the thing down and had a smoke. The best thing to do is have a party where you know the people. I never have a huge party without knowing those who come...just too much could go wrong elsewise
Sonthert
Oh god! NO!!! I just reread your post! I'll just activate my sample homing beacon and get them back. I have a simple rule, never trust anyone with anything you can't afford to or don't want to lose. One time, I was in Tijuana, Mexico. We were buzzed and we went to this club and we were moshing (it was the early 90s, after all) and some punk with a spike ring tried to open my eye up by hitting me repeatedly with his ring. Well, I was a ------- mess so the club security took me upstairs and gave me a bandaid and some ice. We were going downstaris and the Mexican guy working there was try to help me (by putting his hand in my pocket) which in the US is asking to get popped, but is slightly more normal in Mexico. I reached into my pocket and found...my driver's license was missing...I hit the roof, I told the guy to get the ---- away from me and called him a thief. Later, just after I crossed back into the US, I opened my wallet and found that I had put my driver's license in a little wallet pocket (not where I normally kept it). I couldn't find it because it wasn't where I thought I put it, because I'd been tore up. I found it easier to think a Mexican was dishonest and trying to rob me rather than just blaming myself for something that was my own fault. I felt bad that I accused the guy...you may still find the $hit...I've found people are usually more honest than you think. With the sermon, let me know what you lost and I'll send you new ones...God! Idiots!
Sonthert
I'm not saying that story has any parallel to you, Brad. I was just trying to point out you may still find it and that people are more honest than we give them credit for...at least in California...Sorry I pressed the wrong button and it sent my post away before I was done rambling.... pavlakos_politakos
i never have the coal problem because i always have a wind stopper over my hookah so they dont fall off.and if ur worried about extra heat being trapped in just poke extra holes or put less coal. ANOTHER INGENIOUS IDEA FROM MOI!!!
wyteboy
Tell me what you guys think of this.....it may be a bit "tacky" and is not necessarily esthetically (sp?) appealing but TRUST me this works. I went to an autozone and I bought one of the large sheet metal oilpan dripping trays...you know, very large thin, flat with lipped sides...sheet metal, NOT plastic. Whenever I smoke (I have a small apt so its usually with one or two friends MAX, never had a real hookah party), I place the hookah right in the middle of this thing so if it gets knocked over or coals fall off or anything like that, it's not a big deal and not a worry!!!!! May I ask what the dimensions of this this pan were? And also how much it set you back? I'd definately be interested in getting something like this. Not only is it good to protect your carpet, but has anyone ever been nervous when putting their hookah right on the carpet? Its all wobbly. By setting it on a flat pan like this, it gives the hookah a sturdy base to rest on, and is harder to pull over... Might have to look into this, thanks Wyte
jmexx
Tis a good idea but that's never really the problem with us. It's not that the coal will just tip off the head and fall neatly on the floor. it's someone pulling the hose too hard or whatever and the WHOLE hookah falling down, launching the coal at the same time.We always, whether it's a lot of people or just a couple of us, smoke with a towel under the hookah. Bigger things like blankets for bigger occassions. I wouldn't think to use carpet just because it's impratical for our use. We like sitting on the floor so the blanket serves as a multi-purpose tool. The coal never stays on long enough to burn through the blanket. Everyonce in awhile we use this little fondue turntable, too. We have spinners but we rarely use them just because the Syrians smoke better. This little turntable adds a little protection to the floor and makes it easier for when people pull the hookah too much.Maybe next time I should use a platform on wheels, haha then glue the bottom of my hookah to the platform. PORTABILITY!!Jon
Brad
I'll have to steal my dad's and try that out Wyteboy, is yours warped at all or completely straight? I think I remember his being wobbly on the ground, but it's an old one.Tangiers: Originally I had assumed I misplaced it all ...but after searching my friends house all morning I gave up. Actually, I have an idea of the guy who "borrowed" it now. Word spreads fast! It wasn't a close friend but someone I thought I could trust. A lot of people are unhappy with him because of the incident ...but I want to talk to him before I assume he's a bad guy. Anyways, luckily the only two samples that were taken were Cinnamon and the small amount of Kashmir Apple I had left (about a bowls worth). The rest were in my backpack away in a room. nakedandangry
My hookah+party story: At a house party. One of my friends brought a hookah. Cops came. Decided the hookah was "drug paraphenilia" and confiscated it. No evidence whatsoever. gah. -Naked
Brad
I've always wondered this: is there a way to get a hookah back that has been taken by a cop? You really don't mind sending more? I feel like I could just buy the flavors that were taken, atleast that way you'll be getting something in return.
