Ok, a friend of mine has a rusted out 12" mya. It isn't super bad, but there is definately rust in the heart and ports. I was thinking I might be able to sand it down, rinse and clean it thoroughly, and bring it back to life. Will this work? Sorry no pics.

I would try this, i have done this for a lot of rusted stuff in the past. Go to a hardware store, big ones like lowes and home depot have this stuff called Naval Jelly. Designed to remove rust off of naval ships. removes rust without damaging paint and pretty much any other coating. I would use this stuff. It's great!

Wow, I've never heard of such a thing. You just rub it on, let it sit, and then wipe the rust away with it?

That must have sat there for ages without proper cleaning to do that!

I was gonna say the same, it is tough to make a mya rust, a bud of mine had one and never washed it when he did he let it sit out and didn't dry it, and really took very bad care of it and the thing still didn't rust.

Damn beat me to it, naval jelly works wonders so +1 to that.

Same here. Naval jelly is da bomb on rust. But man make sure you clean it really good after wards. After the rust is gone but a little mineral oil and rub on. It will help keep the rust from coming back, but remember you have to do this every so often.
