momatik
Supposedly, the colder the hookah, the less flavor you get. However, I always put ice in the vase and sometimes I chill the stem in the freezer for a bit. Also, a phunnel bowl will really improve the flavor in your experience. If you don't feel like investing in a phunnel bowl just because I said so, go to the How To section of this message board and search "Phaking the Phunnel."It works
BadgerBadger
I'd have to say the most important thing for a strong flavor is the brand of shisha. As far as lasting flavor, phunnel and that's all I have to say about that.
Codename067
As long as the brand is flavorful, you will get good tasting clouds. Then of course, your hookah has to be cleaned along with your hose.
SuburbanSmoker
To me they are all important. If any one of them is off then the flavor wont be strong it will be mediocre at best.If the shisha is a shit brand the flavor wont be good to begin with.If the hookah isnt clean the taste of a previous bowl can mix in with the flavor of the shisha your smoking.if the heat management sucks well your fucked because you will either get too little smoke or harsh smoke. Some brands of charcoal will leave a lingering charcoal taste which completely botchs the bowl...yuckFlavor can get stuck in hoses like coffee, or mint, and linger for future bowls. takes away from the flavor of what you are smoking. Also draw is very important. For hookah there are many things that all add together to make what a persons "ideal" smoke. I mean everyone wants to get the best experience they possibly can out of every single smoking session. When things are out of whack or not clean that hinders it plain and simple. Certain shishas give more flavor, and with good heat management you make that flavor and smoke better, and if you have a phunnel, it makes it better. Not saying you can get a good smoke out of a mod bowl with HH (hell i do) A good hose is a must, and bad coals can impart flavor on the session. And a clean hookah is a happy hookah. Don't really waste your time with Al Waha, Al-Amir, or El Nakla.Clean hookahs are a must, you dont want the aftertaste of a bowl you smoked 3 days ago.Skipping heat management, the water should be room temperature, and the coals should be on the OUTSIDE of the bowl.As for coals, I would use Rollands, Diamentes, but I personally use Exoticas (Square Long Rods)Hoses are important as well, I NEVER put water through the hose. It can rust the metal inside the hose. Simple blow through the hose after everytime smoking.
JazzyPiano
While I'm still new and learning, does the type of liquid in the base also keep the flavor long lasting? Such as water vs. orange juice?

For example I smoked some SB with tea in the base and 45 minutes into the session the shisha's flavor was all but gone (notorious starbuzz) and the tea's flavor was still there. The shisha is only as good as it is. The only thing I've had affect the intensity and longevity of flavor was getting a phunnel. Phunnels FTW! MechAnt
Like mentioned before, I believe that brand of shisha is very important for the taste factor and plays a small part in the longevity. Phunnels are great for longevity but in a standard SS Hemi bowl, the shisha went for 5 hours! AF Peach ftw. No juice dripped either! It was amazing. hookah hippie
I would say that cleanliness of the hookah and heat management are the top two then brand of tobaccoA dirty hookah will always taste like a dirty hookahA burning hookah will always taste like burning tobaccoA brand with no flavor will always be crap

I use everything in the base (except liquor) fresh fruit, altoids, tea, you name it.
