ronald_dooley
Yea yea... "polishing your stem." But this is a serious post. As many of you know, I bought a brass KM recently. There were a few minor, cosmetic blemishes on the stem: a few blotches in certain spots.I did some research on the best polishes for brass and nickel plating and found a few recommended brands. Today, I went to the hardware store and bought some Wenol, a german metal polish that gets good reviews. A big tube cost me $7.00 and will probably last until the earth crashes into the Sun's surface. So, I gave my stem a good polishing.... ... using an old, white t-shirt ripped into squares, and it worked out very well. The blotches were removed, and the metal is left sparkling and shiny. Has anyone else ever polished their stems? What is your experience? My hookah was on the pricier side, so I want to keep it in good condition forever.- Ronald Edited July 25, 2008 by ronald_dooley

mattarios2
I recently got the tri-metal so I was in the same market as you. Most of the members on here told me to go with brasso. Works on just about anything except silver. So i shined her up and it worked wonders. It got off all of the residue from the welding as well which I was very happy about as well as the etching in the top of the stem where the tray sits. There was all black shit inside of the etchings.Never tried the stuff you are talking about, but brasso does the trick as well.Enjoy your shiny hookah !!! JazzyPiano
I'd also recommend buy a polishing cloth so you don't create any scratches with a rag or t-shirt...a good polishing cloth for brass specifically can easily be found really cheap at a music shop (my french horn is brass and nickel )or hardware store. The blemishes on the metal are gone. I like this Wenol stuff because it's a light paste in a tube and it wiped on/off very cleanly and easily with very little smell. In addition, it has protectant ingredients and seals it.Brasso is a liquid and it makes a goddam mess. On top of that, the smell is very strong. It also doesn't contain protectants or sealants, so you have to polish again a week later. That's why I avoid Brasso.Mushrat has recommended Wenol before on this board in another thread somewhere.- Ronald

I may try it but I don't know, I don't want it to tarnish or leave a mark or something if it doesn't work out.I mean I figure if turtle wax ice works why wouldnt nxt?
