Ice Chambered Kms

Well the poll is just to be informative I know quite a few of you own KMs with ice chambers and I am thinking of buying one do the ice chambers help?

The next time you smoke your hookah around half way into the session grab the stem and it should feel warm/hot to the touch. With the ice-chambered ones they stay cool as long as you put ice in it. So they do work!

i used the ice chamber on the "on the rocks km" and the mash'al.

when smoking tangiers, the ice chamber definitely killed the flavor. with no ice id get plenty of flavor, with iced id get much less flavor.

so im guessing it works.

its kind of a pain though. the ice melts really fast, and if you want it to melt slower salt works, but salt corrodes the metal =/

also, the tray usually has a bunch of condensation on it, so you cant just leave coal there if you plan on using it later

In my experience they aren't worth it. I feel they help keep the stem cool and not getting hot, but in my experience they don't make anything cold. They are useful when smoking outside on a hot day, but that still won't make your hose cold therefor the smoke will still be warm.

After owning a hookah that had an ice chamber I vote no. It may be slightly slightly colder, but no effect that is amazing, at least to me. It isn't a complete no, but more towards no than yes.

i put yes. It does work. To what extent is debatable. Sometimes it seems to make the smoke thicker and retain flavor, sometimes it seems to kill the flavor. I like the way my Ma'Shal looks though. Just a personal preference. Edited July 27, 2008 by SimplexCoda

I have absolutely no idea as to what you are trying to say. That problem you are having never happens to me, at all.

Regarding the question in the thread, I don't think that its a Yes or a No question.

Many people seem to think that putting ice in the chamber will cool the smoke. This is not true, its all in your head. The sole purpose of that chamber [according to my experienced years of smoking from my ice chambered KM] is to PREVENT smoke from becoming hot, rather than cooling it down. I don't use the Ice chamber in the winter time at all, or whenever its cold. I only use it during warmer days.

The Ice Chamber as a whole is not all that significant to the hookah. I love and bought it for its looks, rather than anything else.

tangiers is sensitive to the temperature of the water (smoke temp really).

the colder the smoke, the less flavor, bigger clouds
the warmer the smoke, the more flavor

i used the mash'al ice chamber for the first 5 of 6 uses of that hookah, and each time it was flavorless smoke. i had no idea why, then i stopped and it was great
