Metal Smell

Recommended Posts

Not sure I rarely use backing soda. I use dawn every time and never had a metal smell.

Maybe someone who uses baking soda regularly can better say.

I used dawn before I used baking soday and I still got that smell. Maybe it is just what metal smells like when it's clean?! Heh, maybe I'm not explaining the smell correctly. After I clean it I run a blowdryer on cold through it for like 2 min on both sides to dry it out aswell. Don't use heat because over time I don't want to mess up any solder or welds or w/e

A blow drier shouldn't get hot enough to melt the solder, otherwise you'd have 2nd and 3rd degree burns on your scalp!

No I know that, but over time heating it up to a pretty warm temp, then cooling down, over time it could cause issues. I'd rather just use cool air and not have to worry about anything.

yeah, it's normal. Any time you have metal sitting in water for a while, it's not good. Both my Mya and my KM exhibit this "metal smell," especially if I leave them in the water for a day and don't clean it afterwards.... which I don't do anymore.

Clean it thoroughly with water and good brushes daily and let it dry fully, and this should control the "metal smell" unless you have serious corrosion like rust.

after every session I wash and then blow dry on cold, so I don't think the metal smell will get any worse, but yeah just wanted to make sure it was normal.

Thanks man.

wont happen, not getting hot enough to do anytthing, not even start to temper the metal down, about 1/4 or less of the temp that is needed to do anything to some metals

if you dry it out well i wouldnt worry, if you can start to taste the metal all the time i would start to wonder if it was corroding substantially inside
