Codename067
Hmm it supposed to be that when they are on the side, they don't burn. This only started happening lately? what about previous bowls?
TBatcho07
Happened to me before with the standard Mya bowls

momatik
Make sure your hookah is clean.Make sure your hose is clean. What type of shisha are you using? Is it older? It doesn't make any sense really because usually the only way you can get harshness is if the bowl burns, and if you put the coals on the side there is practically no way for it to burn.I guess you could try using 2 pieces of foil instead of one. Remember to put the shiny side down.
hookah hippie
perhaps you aren't putting enough tobacco in the bowl try filling it up to right under the brim

mobbed
well if you push them off to the side thats less heat for the tobacco so theres the thin smoke and as for harshness its probably because theyve been sitting on one spot of the bowl for awhile and when you move them thats too much heat just move them more often and if that doesnt help just take the coals off for a minute to let the bowl cool a bit

Why does this happen? how can i fix it?The only time I get harsh smoke is from too much heat. Usually it's when I take too many hits too quickly when the smoke is perfect, then it gets harsh fast. When I start to get great smoke, I back off the hits and let the temps regulate somewhat. Hope this helps.

zen
it could be the charcoal, did you switch it to a bad brand? Edited August 5, 2008 by zen
JillyIsJustKidding
Maybe the bowl gets too hot?I'd say take the coals off and gently blow under the bowl to cool it down. Then, just keep the coals off for a few minutes and then start up again.

mattathayde
its gota be to much heat or that it doesnt like the way you packed it, try the double foil i guess (and shiny side up/down doesnt matter its conducting heat through it by touching the foil so how reflective/dull it is matters not)-matt

ALI
usually this happens to me if i dont fully let the coals get hot. wait until they are burned all over and fully white before you put them on. also try using more than what you are. most often happens when i use one, as well

Bulldog_916
I usually just move the coals and purge if i get harsh smoke. It gets annoying at times but I only have to do it very rarely. Keep with the naturals though.
