Hookah is worse than cigarettes

Smoking hookahs is more hazardous than smoking cigarettes and its toxic and poisonous mix can even cause death, the BMC’s latest affidavit filed in the Bombay High Court says.

Quoting Internet reports, the affidavit says “hookah contains noxious, addictive, adulterated and poisonous concoction (which is otherwise unfit for human consumption and not even classified as food product) and which is likely to cause diseases, disability and death because of the highly toxic, poisonous and gaseous matter.”

The affidavit was filed in a petition moved by Narinder Chadha, owner of a Khar restaurant, Kosmic at Evergreen, challenging the BMC’s move threatening to cancel the restaurant’s license if it did not stop serving hookah. The petition pointed out that the law permits a restaurant with a seating capacity of more than 30 people to have a smoking section and that the BMC lacked jurisdiction to ban hookahs. Mocha in Churchgate has filed a petition challenging BMC’s action.

However, granting a breather to hookah parlours, the BMC on Tuesday told the HC that it would issue a show-cause notice to restaurants before taking any action to stop the sale of hookahs. BMC counsel Anil Sakhare said if the sale of hookahs was to be stopped, the civic body would pass a reasoned order. In case the order went against the restaurants, it would not be acted upon for seven days thereby allowing time for appeal.

Sakhare said though the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act permitted smoking of hookah, the BMC could initiate action if hookahs posed a health hazard. According to the BMC affidavit, hookahs can cause tuberculosis and pneumonia since mouth pieces are shared by multiple persons. “Hookah sessions are more threatening to a person’s health than smoking cigarettes.

“Each hookah session lasts from 20 to 80 minutes and consists of 50 to 200 puffs. This exposes the hookah smoker to considerably more smoke over a longer period as compared to a cigarette. While the water absorbs some of the nicotine in the tobacco smoke, the smoker can be exposed to enough nicotine to cause addiction”, the affidavit read.

you are so right. If you ask me whoever is pushing to ban the hookah in this manner is probably racist. I mean come on the spread of TB or Pnemounia? If someone had that shit people would notice before they smoked. ANd besides it says in the article that there are noxious chemicals and shit that could cause death tho they say the danger is getting TB or Pnemounia from using multiple mouth pieces....there is no solid proof. The man behind it I believe is racist and I really wanna see this study they are basing thier push to ban the hookah so I can actaully read it realize they are using it improperly and then shove it up the guys' ass and through is mouth....all though he probably knows the taste of shit in his mouth from all the bullshit he speaks of.

This research is annoying at best. Hookah smokers are 18 years and older, so we're adults. We're not kids; we know the risks. Lastly, the addictive piece of it is exploring everything and all things hookah. All the different makes and styles of the pipe, all the different brands and flavors of shisha.

I just wish there would be a fully legitimate study done. Where the set up is controlled by experienced hookah smokers. I read reports once from a study where the shisha was incinerated and the researchers gathered their info from that.

Yesterday I went online to search for Jurak shisha. Iran has but not listed. India makes most of it. I saw that online search had around 10 sites for buying Jurak wholesale, but there were around 40 sites of anti-jurak shisha smoking from India.
So what that smoking hookah is dangerous? How often have I seen long distance runners running quickly along the side of major highways breathing in for hours at fast rates inhaling fumes of the many cars driving by.
Look at the weather today in Beijing China. The Olympic sportspeople are walking around with scarves because the air is full of thick pollution that darkens the sky. I love to smoke. Dangerous? To some extent, but so are cellphones which I never, ever used, breathing the air of big cities, I live ina village and we have clean air. Each person has her/his own options.
