blow_some_O's
okay so today i bought a little hookah at a local shop. just a little thing that i can take on the go. the guy gave me all the accessories that i needed and 2 boxes of 50g nakhla for 80 bucks so i figured it was a good deal. i set it up and started smoking and the smoke didnt get think at all for about an hour. after i got sick of it i put it away and realized i might have put too much water in it. will adding too much water to ur base make the smoke thinner? fineout
yes, use only .3-.5 inches of water above the bottom of the stem
mushrat
actually..i dont think it will effect the smoke too much...more liekly not enough coal or an overpacked/too tightly packed bowl. The water shoudl be, in my experience, about an inch or so up the down pipe. got a picture of the hookah?
Dip_King
Use 2 coals. Works like a charm. Make sure you dont pack the bowl too tight
SimplexCoda
water depth shouldnt have anything to do with the amount of smoke, it would do with how hard you draw. But what does have to do with the smoke amount is how the bowl is packed and the heat.
j3oomerang
somebody correct me if im wrong, but the deeper the stem is the more you are filtering the smoke; thus resulting in lighter smoke. I think an inch max is good.

barrenwizard
It depends on personal preference. Sometimes you need to adjust to the right amount. For example like inhaling your bottles without the BOWL or PHUNNEL on top of your HOOKAH BOTTLES first to make sure whether you like it or not. If its too much, just pour some water in it trought the Stem Hole where you plug in your HOSE. Just like ABC...

Ash, tobacco, anything else fall into that category?
ALI
it filters stuff like nicotine, which is a solid, but shouldnt really affect the smoke amount. smoke isnt a solid, and the nicotine doesnt really have anything to do with thickness
mattathayde
the water doesnt really doesnt filter a whole lot, its more so there to cool it.amount of water shouldnt mater except for how hard you pull but honestly i think diameter of hose is a bigger deal than most other stufftry packing the bowl softer, the shisha should be very fluffy, pull it all apart and drop it into the bowl, dont pudh it down much if at all (basically just tap it a little to make sure its not sticking up if you have some extra bits up high.if that doesnt work try more coal-matt

Plus I think more smoke is caught in the chamber and you can inhale more when you take slower pulls, not to mention it keeps you more relaxed which is what hookah is all about! And here's a hint for packing a bowl as well. When you are done packing the bowl and you put the screen, or foil, on the top blow into the bottom of the bowl. This will keep the fluffiness of the shisha in the bowl giving you a better pull every time. It has worked every time for me plus you dont have to worry about packing the bowl too tight or hard! Canon
unless youve smoked in a pool you wouldnt know this.. if you go down deep less smoke comes up.
mattathayde
WitlockGuitarist, i got some namors and they are uber awesome, i lemon juiced them right away and then smoked, cleaned with lemon juice and the plastic taste was pretty much gone. and now i just lemon juice it after every use then rinse it out some, doesnt get all the taste out but after you get the hookah started you dont have the old taste. (cobras came with my hookah but i havent tried them yet, they have an excessive amount of woody/dusty ness in them that im to lazy to blow out/suck out through a filter, but they dont pull as well as the namors) -matt Edited August 10, 2008 by mattathayde
Codename067
QUOTE (fineout @ Aug 6 2008, 09:33 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>yes, use only .3-.5 inches of water above the bottom of the stem? .3 - .5 inches in water? You must be using a hose with a VERY thin diameter [If you know your hookah, you will know what I mean].Back to topic, I believe that you need to master managing heat on your bowl, and that will solve many of your problems. make sure the hookah is air tight as well..many people dont test out their hookahs before the sessions starts..you gotta do that every single time. Canon
i didnt go under a few feet, i went under maybe 1 foot. and if 1 foot can take away almost all the smoke, inches do make a difference
