Hookah Color Coding System

Recommended Posts

I would like to share my system of segregating hookahs with you all. There have been two schools of thought that I tried to bridge with my system:1. Smoke anything out of any hookah. The benefits are: its easy, its takes little care and mixing flavors presents no problem. Unfortuantely, transient flavors from  the last flavor you smoked may clash with the flavor you are trying to smoke resulting in Blah! You also need a minimum number of hookahs2. Have specific pipes to smoke flavors out of. Makes for less problems with transient flavors, mixing is impossible, youy risk contaminating a pipe with a foreign flavor. You need more hookahs, many if you like smoking lots of different flavors  and it requires more organizationI devised a hierarchical segregation system so that flavors are segregated with flavors of their own kind to reduce transient flavor problems, but is arrangeged in an order so that you can mix flavors. As the primary color gets darker, the flavor group is stronger, more powerful. You could smoke a lighter flavor out of it and not worry (it'll get blown up by the first flavor native to that group). So mixing is easy, put the mix in the pipe that represents the stronger of the two flavors.Primary Color    Secondary Color GroupWhite Orange Tropical FruitsWhite Yellow MelonsRed White Bunch Fruits "Berries"Red Black Fleshy Fruits "Apple & Pear"Orange Orange Pitted Fruits Apricot, peach, cherry...Yellow Yellow Citrus Fruits (lemon, orange, etc.)Green White Light Soda FlavorsGreen Black Dark Soda FlavorsBlue White Light Candy FlavorsBlue Black Dark Candy FlavorsPurple Purple Floral FlavorsBrown White Light Herbal FlavorsBrown Black Woody Herbal FlavorsBlack   White MintsTropical fruits include pineapple, passionfruit, guava and coconutMelons:Pretty ObviousBunch Fruits:Pretty much anything thats a berryFleshy Fruits: Apples, pears, anything juicy like thatPitted Fruits: Those containing pits, including apricot, peach, cherry and blackthornCitrus Fruits: lemon, lime, grapefruit, and orangeLight Soda Flavors: Heavier, more flavorful flavors that resembe overly flavored sodas, like grape soda or Creme SodaDark Soda Flavors: Soda flavors that tend to be bitter, frequently containing caramel color, like Cola and Root BeerLight Candy Flavors: Flavors that tend to be sweet and lighter in color like vanilla and butterscotchDark Candy Flavors: Same except dark, like chocolateFloral Flavors: Rose, Jasmine, violet and marigold are examples, aromatic flowery flavors that tend to have similar underflavors of flowers.Light Herbal Flavors: Licorice, cinnamon and the likeWoody Herbal Flavors: Kashmir, Cedar and Tea. Flavors that tend towards being bitter and herbaMints: Sticky, terpene bearing herbal flavors that are normally insoluble in water. The system can be compacted to acommodate fewer hookahs (for instance combine the blue/white and blue/black or the Brown/white, brown/black...just never compact red/white and red/black, unlesss desperation sets in)Feel free to use the system for whatever purpose, just make sure its referred to as the Tangiers Flavor System. Thank You

My grape flavor I stick in Green/White, the light soda flavors, because grape is far too sticky a flavor. It used to be in with the bunch fruits, red/white. I recommend green/white.I have a number of thinned out versions for everything from 2 to 13 hookah systems, clumping things together that are less and less similar until you have two pipes, one for fruits and one for candy/soda/herbal/mint flavors.Of course, if you never smoke mint, for instance, you can the eliminate mint pipe. Just some suggestions!
