illiniSAC
Hey everyone,Been a member since April but haven't really done much posting. Been reading a lot on the forums though, and I figured I'd say hey.I go to school at the UofI in Champaign, IL. I'm a junior, 20 years old, in Political Science, with a minor in Speech Communication. I want to be a politician. I founded a smoking club, called the Smoking Affairs Council, down there for hookah and cigars and we're going to be starting our first semester as an official club this fall. We haven't even begun to advertise or anything, but I'm already getting emails from people asking to join. There wasn't a smoking club on campus before so I suppose they'll all be coming to me. I just bought a KM Exotica 36" and a KM Caramana 26". Thanks to everyone who's posted about hookahs, I was doing research for days trying to decide between MZ and KM. I've also got a 3 hose Mya Gyro, a 3 hose Mya Acrylic, a 2 hose Mya QT, a 2 hose Havana hookah, and a 1 hose mini guy, and I've no idea who makes it. I'm probably going to be buying a MZ Nefertiti 31" just to see how an MZ will smoke. A friend of mine and I are planning on building a hookah from scratch, and then building it into a table we're building from scratch as well. We're hoping to have glass parts around it so that you can see smoke travelling through everything. 3 Nammors are my go to hoses, there are also the 2 KM hoses and random other hoses I've collected. When I'm at school I smoke everyday. My parents don't know I smoke which makes it a little difficult to smoke during the summer when I'm home, but I've found ways to manage. My hookah bars of choice are Ultimate Cigars and Hookah in Villa Park and Guess Hookah in downtown Chicago. My first hookah experience was when I was 17. A few friends of mine had just bought one, and invited me over. I was standing up for my first puffs, and I toppled over, and thankfully, I didn't knock over the hookah. It floored me, and I've been chasing that buzz ever since. Tangiers is my tobacco of choice and Fantasia is a close second. So yea, that's me. Definitely let me know if you're going to be in Champaign, unfortunately (though fortunate for you) there's always a few hookahs that aren't being smoked, and I'd be happy to smoke with people who really know their stuff. Jeff_T
Welcome to the forum. That is awesome about starting a smoking club. How does that work? Do you get money from your university? What are meeting/events going to consist of? I'm very interested in this, btw...
TizaNabi
You "want to be a politician".? Most of us in Democratic societies who allow freedom of thought and speech laugh at politicians but watch out if the same politican does something they don't agree with. Then they don't laugh but get serious. I live in a small country and have met leading politicians and past and presently Presidents just by casually walking down the street. It's a tough job, but it seems that they thrive on 25 hour days. You will have to have the skin of an eliphant to deflect personnal crititiszm.Any pecadilloes besides hookah smoking? Large sized plastic dolls in your closet, or call....g's?Are you for putting a gigantic tax on shisha and tobacco like in Germany,Canada and Great Britain? Welcome , I can't vote for you , unless your country takes us over in the future!!

How does that work? Do you get money from your university? What are meeting/events going to consist of? I'm very interested in this, btw...It's going to be tough to get funding from my university. There are a ton of clubs on our campus, and each is in a 'tier'. Tier A clubs like our a cappella group get first dibs on money. I think my club is Tier D or E. It pretty much means there's no money for me. We will probably get money for some fliers though, so that we can advertise our existence. My friends and I are going to front the cash for everything and then figure out some sort of payment system for members. Probably something along the lines of $5 per hookah or something.Meetings will probably take place at my fraternity house since I'm always smoking there, or out on our Main Quad. I'm something of a connoisseur of cigars, so everyone who wants a cigar will be able to pick from my collection (and pay me for them of course). My friend, who's also a member of this forum, is helping out with the hookah side of things. Together we'll pack bowls and just chat people up. There's a local cigar shop that might join in on the fun. Before the Illinois smoking ban, a cigar club was on campus. We used to go smoke at bars, but since we can't smoke at bars anymore, the club disappeared. If I can, I'll be having that cigar shop donate some cigars like they used to do for the cigar club. And finally, I'm hoping to be able to get a discount for the members at the three local hookah bars. They're all awful, awful places, but it might be a nice selling point to people who aren't sure if they want to put up money or not.

I can understand bans on public smoking because of this perception that it's harmful to people, but stop making it expensive for me to smoke in my own home. Codename, I've been looking at your videos on YouTube. I'm going to be trying the pear bowl tomorrow for sure!I've been here for a while, but I was just always talking to people in that shout box. But certainly once my smoke club is underway, I'm sure I'll be busy posting up pictures and questions. Is there any way to respond to all of those replies in one post by the way? Good to hear it's still allowable in places. The University of Arkansas, near me, is now a "tobacco-free" campus. No tobacco allowed, not even dip or chewing tobacco. Nazis, the lot of them. TizaNabi
There are politicians who do good things too. A "good" politician passes laws or arranges things that I agree with. It's so relative. but I'd hate to have a king and lords. Democracy has its faults but it has so many good points.Monty Python's Flying circus have a terrific sketch in "The Holy Grail" film where the peasants run a cooperative commune and each votes, with the leadership changing at regular set times. I love British humour.
