HookahDuck
Ok! So they got here!Tangiers(Eric) has been very generous in sending me samples of his increasinly popular ma'assel. I recieved:Kashmir AppleKashmir PeachCoolingLemmon BlossomRasberryYellow AppleWatermelonI'll post reviews as I work through them. Check back as I add new ones in this thread. KASHMIR APPLE-First impressions: As I'd heard before, the stuff is black. Quite black infact. My parents saw me opening it and was very curious to know what it was.. lol. Moderatly chopped, slightly less fine than AF, with a moderate ammount of stems.Setup: 25 inch 2 hose stargate, cleaned extensivly prior to smoking. Water level 1/2" above down pipe. Medium size deep syrian bowl(had not be used before). Mya Hose. Foil with a ton of holes on one side, and only a few on the other incase harshness arived. (1) properly lit Golden coalTaste: This is by far the strongest tasting ma'assel I've ever had. Eric informed me that this is his strongest flavor, and I believe it. The aroma is also very notable, and it smells similar to incense. I cant detect a whole lot of apple flavor, but more of the "Kashmir", whatever that happens to be. I SWEAR the Kashmir is Saffron... I thought that instantly when I first inhaled. Shocking taste at first, but became pleaurable once I had gotten used to it. When people say this isnt for the "metrosexual smoker", they were more than right. I didnt consider myself to be one until I had smoked this. I'll give the taste a 9.5 out of 10, only lacking the .5 because im looking for the apple.Smoke thickness: I wish I could rate this... unfortunatly, I was unable to take very long drags because it was so harsh on my throat and lungs. You FEEL like you are really smoking, and believe me- you are. What I *could* take in was similar in Nakhla to thickness- not the enormously dense clouds of AF but its not a detriment. Tangiers does require less heat than any other that I've tried, and one Golden was more than neccesary on a medium sized deep syrian bowl I'll attribute my "metrosexualness" to my rating of 7/10Buzz: Wow. Just... Wow. At first, when I was taking really long drags, it nearly knocked me down. This stuff will knock your dick in the dirt.(Sorry for the reference.) Honestly, if I didnt know Eric was such a reputable guy, I'd swear that that this stuff was laced with some extra *spice*. Similar to the loopiness I get from narcotic painkillers(Lortab, Hydrocodone, ect).. Really, its that strong. 12/10 Overall: 8/10. Im sure this will improve as I grow used to the strong smoke. The buzz will keep me coming back for more, but I need a break before I smoke anything else. My throat feels slightly "hairy" after this, and it needs to heal a little.Im actually still smoking it as I type this, and im becoming a little more used to it, and I can taste a little more apple now. I'll go ahead and raise my overall to 9/10. Im starting to fall in love with this stuff...More reviews to come soon!
yashman19
I really don't know anything about the taste of saffron, never personally tasting it before, but I can't imagine safron would be the secret ingredient. From what I've heard, saffron needs to be meticulously picked from a special flower, taking around 80,000 flavors worth for one ounce... Expensive stuff, atleast compared to most other spices..So if this was the secret ingredient, the tobacco itself would cost a bit more I would imagine. But this is all speculation. I don't know any of this to be fully acurate, just what I've heard. I'll get around to trying the kashmir apple one of these days... I love tobacco that will knock you on your bum from the buzz alone. Great review, keep em coming!
wyteboy
keep the reviews coming!! I am awaiting some samples of Tangiers stuff as well and very excited, though it is way too friggin cold to smoke outside and my smoke alarm goes off anytime I BAKE something (wtf?!?), but it will be fun when the temp warms up!! I am def a "metro" smoker apparently? never knew that before LOL , but I look forward to sampling nonetheless. Check my review thread, god knows I love to try a new flavor!! HookahDuck
I've heard saffron is very expensive as well. Perhaps its just something thats similar... but I purchase incense a lot, and the "saffron" variety has a very similar smell(sort of a perfume-y floral scent)I could be off... but its definatly close. cafedelmar
I have a small sample of Kashmiri peach sitting in my room right now. I have yet to smoke it, but God DAMN MY ROOM SMELLS GOOD!
tjt486
try using less of whatever coal your using. Made a world of difference for me. Of couse, eric's generic response to these types of problems is to let the tobacco be exposed to your air for a few hours. Hope that helps. I love this stuff. Just ordered some kashmir peach cant wait to try the kashmir lineup.
HookahDuck
I'll try with only 3/4 of a golden next time... Its just suprising- I have never used less than 2 full Goldens at once when smoking.I let it air out for several hours before trying it, as I was told.I was going to give it another shot tonight, but ended up going to an authentic arabic restaurant which served hookah. Really nice place, and great set up(Romman rasberry), though it was a little pricey at 15.00 per hookah and 7.00 for a refil.
Sonthert
Yeah, less charcoal...it retains heat far better than other brands, needs less charcoal.
HookahDuck
WATERMELONA few of you personally asked me for this one, so I figured I'd give it a shot next.Setup: 24" single hose egyptian. Water 1 1/4" above downpipe. Large Egyptian bowl filled 3/4 of capacity. Mya hose. Foil(with far fewer holes than I usually use). One propperly lit Golden coal. All were cleaned prior to smoking. Allowed tobacco to "air out" for several hours before smoking.Taste: Not the strongest flavor I've ever had. Certainly not compared to Kash. Apple. I would have liked to taste more watermelon, but the taste was present. Smoked similar to a very light peach more than anything. I enjoyed the flavor, but its not one of my favorites. I would recommend it to anyone who doesnt like very fruity or overly sweet ma'assel. I'll give it a 6.5/10Smoke thickness: Quite nice, I was very impressed. I've smoked 3 or 4 bowls of Tangiers now, and im starting to get the stuff under my belt. I was able to take long drags of it without many throat issues, although I used much less heat than last time. Again, similar to Nakhla in thickness. Perhaps not quite as thick as Kash. Apple- but like I said, I used less heat. 7/10Buzz: Not as knock your socks off as the Kashmir line, but it made me woozy. I was reading a chapter in my AP Government book while smoking(final tomorrow...) and it helped to hold my concentration. Definatly way stronger than AA or AF- perhaps on par with Nakla. 9/10Overall 7/10. I liked watermelon, but I'll definatly move on to the rest of my samples before opening this one again. Like I said, its perfect for anyone who is looking for a "lighter"(and I use that term relativley) Tangiers which doesnt produce an overwhelming flavor. It would be nice to smoke over a meal.More to come!
cafedelmar
I tried the Kashmiri peach. Don't have very much of a review to write, but it was a pretty damn strong taste, as mentioned above the strongest taste yet. It was also a very thick smoke, and my semi-virgin lungs found it a bit harsh with two coals. That may be because I left it for about a week in just a ziplock bag, not quite airtight, so it may have dried a bit. I wasn't too big a fan of the taste of this one, but besides that and the harshness, a perfect ma'assel in terms of flavour, smoke thickness, cut and everything else. I'd probably give it 7.5 or 8 out of 10. I'd def try another flavour, something that wasn't Kashmiri maybe. Hopefully it would be a little less harsh. But the flavour, so strong! Sonthert
Stir well. Its interesting how some people call watermelon strong and others very light. I hate to say it, but humidity plays a part in it. Stir well and make sure to keep all of the juice in it. I have smoked the same batch of, watermelon, for instance and the flavor will be very light and then other times I'll smoke it and it'll be strong. I'm sure I've told the story about the disappearing Nahkla Double Apple Flavor? It happens to all tobacco to one degree or another, at least the brands I've tried. HookahDuck
hmm... I'll try that Eric. I did allow this stuff to be exposed to the open air over night before trying it though.I smoked a bowl of Rasberry + Cooling and it was amazing. I'd rather not review the two without smoking them on their own however. I should have those up soon.

Sonthert
Sometimes, if the weather is in the middle of changing (getting damper or drier) you may be waiting awhile, the tobacco is drying out, but the air keeps getting drier. Maybe my tobacco just sucks, who knows?

HookahDuck
KASHMIR PEACH:Setup: 25 inch 2 hose stargate, cleaned extensivly prior to smoking. Water level 1/2" above down pipe. Medium size deep syrian bowl. Mya Hose. Foil with few holes. (1) properly lit Golden coalTaste: Definatly the best peach I've ever had. After trying Romman Peach, I had just assumed that im not a peach fan; It simply tastes too chemically and artificial to me. Perhaps it was the "Kashmir" which set it off so nicely. The result is a medium flavor peach which actually tastes similar to the fruit, without that "bite" found in other peaches. The "Kashmir" is less strong in this one than in Kash. Apple, and it suited my senses very well.I'll give taste a 10/10Smoke thickness: Either im growing some "hair on my chest", or im simply getting better at preparing this stuff. I used even less holes in my foil that before and the result was a very enjoyable smoke. I could take drags as long as I wanted to, and enjoy the cool, rich smoke. I also used ice in the vase for the first time in several sessions (I wanted to not use it for a few weeks, and see if I could notice the difference between ice and room temp water.), and though the difference is slight- it IS noticable. VERY thick clouds of dense HEAVY smokethickness gets a solid 10/10Buzz: Exactly what I've come to expect from Tangiers. I've gotten a little more used to the buzz, and its more of a mellow chill than a dizzy fit.buzz: 10/10Overall 10/10. Anyone who reads my reviews should know that im a skeptic and it takes a LOT for me to rate anything a 10. This the highest I've ever rated a ma'assel. AWSOME job with this one Tangiers! HookahDuck
COOLING:Setup: 24" single hose egyptian. Water 1 1/4" above downpipe. Medium Egyptian bowl filled 3/4 of capacity. Mya hose. Foil. One propperly lit Golden coal. All were cleaned prior to smoking. Taste: This ma'assel has very little, if any taste. Should not be smoked on its own IMO, but mixed with a nice mint or a fruit that you would like to add the "cooling" effect to. The cooling effect is present- though I didnt find it all that enjoyable. Its more of a "hot" cooling IMO (think of Vick's Vapor rub) than a soothing cool. I'll try this one again before I retire it. I will say that a small ammount of this stuff mixed with Tangiers rasberry was quite enjoyable. A little goes a long way.Taste isnt really applicable to this flavor, so it gets a N/A.Smoke thickness: Moderate thickness, slightly more whispy that the other Tangiers that I have tried. Again though... this tobacco shouldnt really be smoked on its own, so its difficult to rate. I'll say thickness is a 6/10Buzz: Pretty strong buzz from this one actually, though like the thickness- I've found stronger from other flavors. Any reason for this Eric?Buzz: 7/10Overall: I'd like to rate this one N/A- becuase on its own, it wasnt all that great. However, combined in a 20/80 mixture with Tan. Rasberry, it was very nice. If I had to rate this one all by itself, I'd give it a 4/10. Perhaps if you are a fan of unflavored tobacco(Zaghoul), and would like to try it with a menthol effect- check it out! Sonthert
Cooling is kind of designed to be light smoking, sort of the equivalent of non-alcoholic beer. It mixes well, better than mint for some things. Thanks for your kind words on the Kashmir Peach. It is always gratifying to have a die-hard smoker come across with highest ratings for something you make for people to enjoy.
