Pilgrim
just finished reading rules of attraction by brett easton elliscurrently reading the island from aldous huxley. Since I'm reading the english version (I'm dutch) and huxley sometimes uses a quite difficult vocabulary, I'm advancing a bit slower than usual, but I'll get there

I'm on book 6 right now and Thor is on book 7. On par with LOTR as a personal reading experience and possibly in the realm of great literary works IMO. Screw that, better than LOTR cause Stephen King may be wordy but this 7 book series warrants every one, and shit if it took me 3 tries to get past the beginning of the Hobbit (much love Tolkien). gaia.plateau
Once my class ends on Tuesday, I'm going camping for 5 days during which time I'll be reading Crime by Irvine Welsh, The Informers by Bret Easton Ellis (rereading before the film comes out), Snuff by Chuck Palahniuk and The Baby Jesus Butt Plug by Carlton Mellick III.Stuie: Lullaby is incredible.Pilgrim: It's well worth the slow advancement. Huxley is a personal hero of mine, and while I like his earlier works better, when he was more cynical and not yet obsessed with psychedelics, Island is still one of the best pieces out there.Big Boss/gnr: The Dark Tower novels constitute an excellent story, one of my favourites actually; I've read through them 7 times, first picked up the Gunslinger when I was 11 which was the first 'real' book I ever read for pleasure. But I wouldn't call them literary masterpieces, or even achievements- it's a very, very good story, but not particularly well written or personally enriching. I think King is a lot like Sheemie... he's got an incredible gift, he just doesn't have the basic tools necessary to bring it to full potential. He's certainly no where even remotely close to the levels of KV Jr., his perhaps most celebrated contemporary or Tolkien, his professed inspiration for DT, but still his works are extremely enjoyable and entertaining to read. judgeposer
It seems that most who've replied are into fiction. Anyone reading non-fiction stuff now?I just finished Real Food, one of the two I had been reading. I'll probably return to a few of the readers I have been trying to finish next. I will cozy up to either the Michael Eric Dyson Reader or the Alasdair MacIntyre Reader. The last work of fiction I read...was...if I recall correctly, Post Office by Charles Bukowski, which was an awesome read if you're into dirty-old-man literature. ryno
Been looking for this book for awhile, and just found it at my schools library. Can't Find My Way Home: America in the Great Stoned Age by Martin TorgoffIt's tells the history of illicit drug use in america from 1945-2000, covering jazz, bebop, the 60s counterculture, and many others. He twines his own personal experience with what was happening at the time.. I'm only in the first chapter, but i can tell this is gonna be a good read.
