PK
Hey everyone, first post here... been reading around these past few days trying to absorb everyone's feedback on various products. I'm ready to make my first purchase, been enjoying a friend's hookah lately so it's about that time. At first I was set on an Egyptian but it seemed that no matter where I went (and I know all the best sites thanks to you guys) I could never find exactly what I wanted, I'd love the stem and hose but not the bases availalbe and vice versa. Then I started to lean towards modern pieces and am still favoring them at this moment. Stargate comes to mind..... they'll be available at the end of the month for $129 for the 32"er but not quite sure yet. I take everything I purchase very seriously so I need to make sure I'm making the right decision before I shell out the cash for it. Then there's my newest interest below: http://www.myasaray.com/store/item.asp?ITE...EM_ID=866&DEPAR TMENT_ID=46This has pretty much everything I'm looking for including a sleek look, but I don't know much about acrylic vs. glass. I tried to get as much info before posting but I'm still unsure. I read somewhere that the acrylic is half the weight of the glass and scratches easier but I'm hoping that it's sturdy enough to remain where it needs to be especially with my dog running around the living room. I know it will withstand a beating but what kind of overall weight differences does it have with a classic traditional hookah.Does anyone have any experience with the product above? I want something strong, solid, and heavy and that's what I enjoyed about my friends Egyptian glass piece. How do these compare?Shipped at $85 is a nice price, while everyone's raving about the stargate I'm debating waiting for it to become available or just dive into this bad boy. Oh, and I guess I'll raise the question that's been asked many times on my own thread..... Is there any difference in the performance of acrylic to glass?I have a feeling I'll be coming around here often, posting pics and living it up with all of you so for now, thanks for the feedback in advance. Help me find my ideal hookah. If you have any others in mind, please share. I'd love to have this ordered by the end of the weekend.
Brad
I had an acrylic MYA and it was great. I actually regret not buying another one recently when I decided to get a new hookah.I guess the acrylic vs. glass choice really comes down to what you are looking for. My acrylic did scratch but not too bad. Was lighter and breaking it wasn't a problem ...but then again glass looks more expensive. Honestly, if it were my I'd go for the MYA. tiMMey
Yeah Mya hookahs are some of the bests you can get... the hose is a very high-class leatherette, you screw the "column" into the vase (I hope you understand what I mean) which makes the pipe 100% air tight. The pro of an acrylic bowl are, as Brad said, that they are nearly undestroyable, but they don't look so expensive, but I think the difference isn't too big..So I'd say it's a great hookah! PK
great feedback I'm also not so sure how well the stems on Myas hold up, like I said I'm looking for something that will hold it's own for long period of time, without rust and other common wear and tear issues that usually show their faces earlier with POS products. Is the stem stainless steel on these, how do they compare to stainless Egyptian's?
yashman19
Mya's have a great reputation here, but if you are looking for something that is heavy duty, the Stargate, for its size, weighs alot. There isn't really a difference in smoke quality when comparing a acrylic base or a glass base. What can make a difference is the shape of the base itself, but not just what material it is made out of. I have a stargate, and the base isnt glass or acrylic, its plexiglass, which does have a tiny little scratch in it, but nothing major... and I love my Stargate. I've never smoked out of a 32" one, but my 25" smokes superbly. If you have any more specific questions on the Stargate, ask em here and I'll try and help you out. There are a couple others with stargates, and I'm sure they'll chime in as well.
HookahDuck
I bought my ex girlfriend(not ex at the time) a MYA very similar to the one above. Its a nice piece which smokes very well. She travels back anf forth from college often, so the acryllic base is perfect for her.

PK
Well here I am a few days later still debating this purchase.... visiting both the stargate and mya sites and still trying to get my last minute searches in for feedback here. It's still a tossup.Yashman19, I read on another thread that after 3 months your Stargate started giving you some issues. What was the final outcome with that situation, did Taqseem help you with the base threading issue or did you find a way yourself to permanently fix the problem? I'm still reading some cons about the Stargate but most are linked to the 25" such as base threading and water getting up in hoses. I heard the 32" is built a bit differently with a larger base so I wonder if the water issue is still a factor. I'm still torn between the two. It was a bummer that the threads wore out, but it was an easy fix, so I never bothered for a new base. I was reckless with my Stargate, and wasn't fully unscrewing the base before I pulled the two apart, so they wore out early..Now I have to take a wet strip of paper towel and cover the threads, but this makes the connection nice and tight with no problems. The water issue isn't a problem once you find the right level of water to fill the base with, so you don't really have to worry about it, but I think getting the 32" would solve any problems with the water issue. I love my Stargate, and haven't had any problems besides the threads, so if you have any more questions about it, go ahead and ask away and I'll try to fill you in, so you can make a good purchase. I can't really help with mya's though, becaues I don't have any experience with them, but you know everyone here says that mays have a great reputation. crepenchicha
That's my hookah! The MYA, that is. I've never smoked a Stargate, so I won't comment on it.Anyway, I don't think there's a difference between the glass and acrilyc, but the acrilyc has the added benefit of being virtually indestructable. In fact, the whole thing (including the stem) is indestructable because it's made of non-rusting materials (except that stupid little ball bearing for some reason... *shrugs*).Regardless of looking "expensive" or not, that hookah does look like a work of art sitting on your floor. It is beauty personified. But the biggest benefit of that MYA? The most important: it smokes like a beast. It is 100% air-tight. I doubt you'll find a better made hookah anywhere.
